I have had similar feelings and sometimes I think I have misspelled a word and it is really correct but it just look weird. Sometimes even the easiest words like was, I take a moment before spelling :cry: I oftentimes ask my sister to spell two and three letter words for me, she would always laugh as she know I can spell but it is just something with those moments.

TOEFL is what our universities here in Jamaica use to test non-native speakers. I have heard a few complaints in regards to it being challenging but the majority think it's a walk over. I guess once you know the basic compounds of the English-language then TOEFL will be ideal for you.

The fact that you are trying to learn the language and the font is your only issue, you are well on your way. With a little more practice, you will be able to read it much easier as it is just a matter of distinction between the letters. I gave up from I learnt the first letter. :wacky:

Normally when I am texting and someone misspell a word, I would normally re-use the same word in my response with the correct spelling. Some persons are easily offended so what I think you can do is always try to re-use the said word in your response and emphasize on the proper pronunciation. If it is someone who is interested in learning though, they should not be offended by you giving a correction.

It is definitely easier for me to learn the basics from a non native speaker but as I progress I would prefer to have a native speaker as my teacher. Who else can give such awesome tips and pronunciation? It is however just a matter of personal choice, the individual teacher and their approach when giving such lessons.

I have tried to translate songs and had a hard time doing so. Songs are similar to poetry, wherein it is all about the rhythm and pattern of your words. Some are easier than others but it is just hard in general because of the reasons you listed earlier.

Tonight is the boyfriend's birthday celebration and I want it to be very special. He is just learning French and is fluent in Spanish, so I want to tell him a few words in French or another language. Which do you think would be more appealing and sound sexy?

Sounds like quite an interesting game, I will definitely be trying it and then leave my review here as well. I am always interested in new language learning tools and to have it in the form of a game, it is definitely a plus.

I agree with you Rosa, Jamaicans speaking the queen's English do so beautifully. It is clear and precise, unlike some persons who speak with an accent. I however love the French accent, it is very beautiful. If I had a French boyfriend, he would have a lot of talking to do.

I have decided to study and work in Canada as of next year but I am uncertain if I should be studying French or Spanish. I want to make myself more marketable, so when I get there it won't be that great a challenge to find employment. I prefer French as it is easier to learn but I have to consider which will be more feasible.

Both paid and free services will help and also may have flaws. One has to choose wisely when trying to find the right person to assist with their translation needs. A teacher of the language would be the ideal person, however you don't necessarily have to pay them. Social networks have briged the gap and there are several persons who enjoy communicating with others from different nations and regions. We can make friends who speak both languages, professional or otherwise.

Thanks for sharing as I really needed something like this to help me, being that I am learning the language basics now. I need additional help with pronunciation so I hope I can find people here that will guide and mentor me a bit :confused:

I was just about to try it but since I am just going to start learning French from start, it wouldn't make much sense then. I don't know the French alphabet but I do know how to say I love you in French, that is about it.

I love French and would like to speak it fluently but I do not have much time on my hands, therefore and Android app would be cool, but a free one would be just perfect as I do not have any money to purchase one. Are there any that you guys can suggest? Please share as I am anxiously waiting.

I love my native language English but my favorite foreign language is French. It is even easier to learn than Spanish and it is so beautiful when pronounced properly. The language I hate the most is Chinese as it is hard to both speak and write it.

I have always been attracted to French guys and You was told that they are very romantic  :wacky: for this reason I would learn French anytime. The best relationships I think are ones where persons are different from each other in a few ways. Negatives do attract and I think it would be cool to have a bilingual baby.

I have wondered the same thing, as I am interested in learning Spanish too but those rich R's won't come. I have been practicing since I was first introduced to Spanish in primary school, yet I still cannot do it.
