I know a lot of people say to use mnemonics to help remember characters, but with thousands of common characters to memorize, you'd need to build up just as many stories in your head for the characters. It can take a lot of effort on your part to actually do it, but if you never do then you will never attain a high degree of fluency, if any at all! Pretty much all of those are good though.
