  1. Slang has become so pervasive in the English language that in most circumstances it almost not like slang at all. Referring to a friend as "dude" is the most common thing I can think of off the top of my head that is completely slang, but happens so frequently people may not even realize it as slang.
  2. I totally agree with you. A lot of people don't maintain a proper level of diction when they write or speak and it comes off as sounding stupid on their end if they are using an unnecessarily high level of diction for their intended audience. People do it anyway to 'sound smart' though. It's pretty annoying.
  3. This is exactly the stuff I am interested in learning about. Thank you for the links to this video, I really enjoyed watching it.
  4. I usually have correct grammar and spelling even when I am chatting to my friends through instant messaging software online. Most of my friends are pretty good about it as well. I am not a stickler about anything though and usually won't mind incorrect spelling or grammar unless it prevents me from understanding what is going on in the conversation.
  5. Hi everyone! My name is Zach. I am currently studying Applied Mathematics, but I was obsessed with English Literature and linguistics all throughout highschool and I have deep fascination with etymology and the development of language over time. I am glad there is a place where I can discuss things like this with other like minded people.
