  1. I think song lyrics can totally be poetic, as long as they are not being sung by Justin Beiber, that is. I have never been a huge fan of actual poetry, but I do love reading and writing Haiku. I think it is because I love the ideal of being to express a thought or evoke a feeling in someone using only seventeen syllables.
  2. Being a speed reader comes in quite handy when you are scanning material looking for a word or a phrase. However, when reading a novel, you have to be careful not to read through it too fast, or you could miss the meaning in a sentence or a passage, or fail to capture the feeling the author wished to convey with his or her words. My own reading skills are highly developed, and reading quickly is an ingrained habit, so I have to sometimes remind myself to slow down and drink the words in, instead of devouring them whole.
  3. I never do this with people that I do not know well. However, I have a young friend that is dear to me, and l call him my "heart-adopted" son. His spelling and grammar are atrocious, and I do correct him on it when I read and comment on some of his Facebook posts. He lives in another state now, so this is our main form of communication, sadly. The way I do it, is non-confrontational in nature. For example, he might post the following: "I worked rilly late last nite", and I would comment, "I'm really sorry you had to work so late last night". He knows that I am doing this to help him, and he is not offended by it.
  4. I do use shortened forms of words when sending text messages on my cell phone. I am not the fastest text message sender in the world, so any time that I can save, while still managing to make myself understood, is a blessing. However, while posting on a forum such as this one, or on a social media site such as Facebook, I do try to use proper English because I feel that it expresses my personality better.
  5. I really love this thread! A few of these quotes I have heard before, but most of them were new to me. One of my favorite people to quote is the great Mark Twain: “I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.”
