  1. I have an accent, but when I'm around other people who sound like me, I don't have it any more. Hispanic women love the way I sound, they say my words are really clear, and I sound perfect to them. I'm from Texas, but I don't have the country accent like others do. My voice is really clear, and my words are perfectly spoken. We all have accents when we are around other people who have accents.
  2. I disagree, while I do love women from London when they talk, I still think that they are saying many words unclear. I still wonder if this is true because of how we say certain words in English, they will say them differently and it makes me think they are just sounding wrong because of their accents. I got nothing against the British, but I just think they sound weird when they pronounce English words. Sexy, but weird. I'm talking about women, not men. I'm straight.
  3. Some people out there actually learn another language just to accept a job that pays them more money than they have ever made in their life. Some teachers can have the best lives when they move to a country where they will be paid great, living quarters taken care of, and also other great things given to them as well just to teach kids how to speak English. Would you learn another language just to take a job in another country?
  4. Just say hey, you said the word wrong. There shouldn't be anything bad to come from that. When I talk to people who have deep accents, and they barely speak English, but can have a conversation, I will just stop them when they pronounce something right, but it comes out wrong. I'll just teach them right there and tell them why the word comes out wrong. They never have a problem with it. I guess it's how you come off when you are trying to correct them.
  5. Many of you know what slang is so I won't give examples. I want to know when it started and why. I don't like the fact that people take many of the English words and chop and screw them. They sound so dumb when they talk the way they do, "yu kno wut I'm sayin mane", "wuz gud son". I know I said I wasn't going to give examples, but I just had to. People have claimed many talk like this because they are illiterate and don't have intelligence. I used to talk like that, but I wanted to change my grammar because I didn't like how I talked.
  6. I actually took really well to learning Spanish. Have you ever heard of Fluenz? It's a really good service that I would recommend. I don't think you should use Rosetta, as it's a language learning program that has many faults. It's good, but not as good as Fluenz. It's kind of expensive, but definitely worth it. You can start to pick up pretty quick, but you have to be willing to continue to learn. Thank for joining, look forward to connecting with you.
  7. Good selection, I want my top 5 to be English, French, Italian, Russian, and Chinese. That's six, but I would take off Chinese as the last one because I don't plan on moving to China any time soon, and I don't think it's a future language as it's most commonly spoken by Chinese. I know it's damn near 2 billion of them, but that doesn't make it a universal language.
  8. Well I guess I have to say that I'm not fluent right now, I would like to say that I'am because I can almost have real conversations. I can talk to people in Spanish, but when it comes down to the daily part of talking in the language for everything, then that's where I fail because I don't know how to say many things in the English language in Spanish. We make up so many words in English, I have noticed that other people in their native language still say some English words in English.
  9. I've never lived in a foreign country, although I would love to move to France and become fluent in French. I love french women, and I'd like to marry one as well. It would be really nice to have that happen because I don't want to stay where I live now. It's only a matter of time though, I'm working towards that goal now.
  10. There is only one movie that I have seen this in, and that was Red Tails. One of the pilots married a woman who didn't speak English. It made me wonder if I would do the same, and I would say yes. I had this one job, there was two girls who came from Mexico, one spoke English OK, and the other knew no words in my language. I really began to like the non-English speaking girl, but we both hated that we couldn't talk to each other. Even though I couldn't talk to her, I really wanted to be with her, and learn more as we progress in our relationship. It didn't happen, I got fired. I believe we had something special that just got lost in time. Would you marry someone who you couldn't speak to, but over time learn together?
  11. You do need to be able to speak in the same way as the natives. I remember learning this when I started to learn about French. There is no way to say French words properly unless you are using their accent, or native pronunciation. I believe that learning the words is pretty easy, but learning how to say them correctly is another thing. I got really good at it thought because I don't let myself feel embarrassed when trying to pronounce the words like the natives do which was my problem in the beginning. I didn't want to sound like foreigners, but I love it now, and doing so helps with learning quicker.
  12. I had to learn the hard way, I remember having text conversations with this woman who didn't speak any English. I went off of the Spanish that I was fluent in at the time, but there was still something that I didn't know how to say. I tried using the translator to translate, and what ever it gave me back, I would put that in the message. She always responded in confusion. I didn't notice what the app was doing until I put it in reverse, and saw how it changed up many words and gave me what it thought I meant. Never used it again for that purpose. Only words.
  13. Language apps are so inconsistent that it's impractical to use it to learn. I think that there are so many errors that occur, that anyone who chooses to use it as their main source will have a hard time trying to convince people that they are fluent in the language because they will be speaking inconsistent/broken sentences. I have problems using the google translate app all the time, especially for full sentences.
  14. I do, I love having someone teach me their language in their accent. It helps me with word pronunciation. When I hear their voice as they speak, I can listen to the patterns and different pitches in their voice as well. I like learning like this because it really helps me to organically understand and speak as if I was a natural in the language. Plus I want to identify as much as possible with the culture, I don't want to be speaking Spanish to someone and sound like an American still, I want to have the accent down as I speak. It makes me feel more fluent like that.
  15. In Spanish you cannot say "chica amiga", and expect Spanish speakers to know that you are trying to say "girlfriend", you have to say novia. But in English, you take "girl", and "friend", then put them together to get "girlfriend", and everyone will know what you mean. Why is i like that if you understand?
  16. I stay motivated by trying to talk to people in the language, and making myself watch some shows on a foreign network so that I can get it down. When I started watching Telemundo network, I heard many things that I learned, and that made me so excited because I knew I was learning. There have been many shows that I have skipped threw, but was really interested in. Now I know a lot, and can keep up most of the time.
  17. I think this is a problem because people choose to not actually use their mouths to pronounce the words int he language correctly. I hated when I seen so many people trying to pronounce something in another language, but they won't say the word right. It's so easy, but it's the way that you have to move your mouth is what makes a lot of people uncomfortable, or just plain feel embarrassed. Writing is easy, I can write notes in Spanish easily, but speaking it in the beginning was hard for me because I could not pronounce the words right. I would pronounce them as if I was reading them in plain English without using the accent like pronunciation, which was the proper way to speak the language. I actually feel equal now with writing and speaking other languages because I don't hold back on how I speak another language when I'm trying to learn. I can get the accent down and everything.
  18. I didn't take the work seriously, but I did learn a lot of Spanish. I liked speaking the language, but when you are in class, and you start skipping assignments that teach you how to write in the language, it's damn near impossible to catch up. Many students in the class played around, and I did as well, but I still learned with the students who also wanted to practice what the teacher was teaching.
  19. English is the best in my opinion. It has an alphabet that has 26 letters, and that is all you need to know to start creating words, there is no pronunciation issues like with languages like mandarin, dialects, no distinctions like Porto Rican and Spanish will claim there is with their languages. It's really easy to understand the language. In English you say girlfriend, but in Spanish, you can't say Chica Amiga, as that doesn't make sense, which is something that confused me when I started learning. Chica Amiga does mean girl-friend, but you have to say Novia to say girlfriend in Spanish. I said chica amiga to someone in Spanish and they looked so confused. You can't put words together in many other languages to create a compound word, English is really basic, and easy to learn for anyone.
  20. That is something that I believe many languages learners choose to over look. Just because a language is the most spoken doesn't mean it's diversified among the international community. I believe the language that is the most recognized all over the planet is English.Dozens of countries use the language as their default, and many more have plenty of citizens who use it. It's a universal language, and is super easy to learn. I remember when I wanted to learn mandarin, but changed my mind when I knew the countries that I planned to travel to did not have citizens that speak it. I had better luck learning French, Italian, and Spanish.
