Hi from South Africa

Hi everyone. I am a native South African. My home language is Afrikaans, but I studied English at school. I am currently learning Tswana through a friend, but I really want to learn French. I am also open to help someone with Afrikaans.

Afrikaans en Nederlands zijn net dialecten van elkaar, vind je niet?

Since you speak Afrikaans as your native language, I assume you wouldn't need a translation ey?

Jy is reg, ek kort nie 'n vertaling, maar dit is nie heeltemal dialekte van mekaar nie.

Even though Afrikaans is greatly influenced by Dutch, even being referred to as Kitchen Dutch at one point, it is also greatly influenced by French. My French forefathers embarked on 'Die Oosterland' to South Africa from Delft in the Netherlands.

I know they're no dialects, but it's almost like it would be it.
I always found Afrikaans very interesting for this very reason.

They are very similar yes. In South Africa Afrikaans men are referred to as Boere(farmers) or Dutchmen. It might not sound like it but they are used as derogatory terms. I wear the labels with pride though.
