Even though Afrikaans is greatly influenced by Dutch, even being referred to as Kitchen Dutch at one point, it is also greatly influenced by French. Sukird Posted April 19, 2016 Author Report Share Posted April 19, 2016 They are very similar yes. In South Africa Afrikaans men are referred to as Boere(farmers) or Dutchmen.
