marrr Posted March 29, 2017 Report Posted March 29, 2017 I found the Deutschretter channel and am wondering why the guy said "zu Hause" instead of "Zuhause". I am sure my teacher said "das Zuhause". Can somebody explain the difference between both? (I dont care about the nach Hause...) Quote
宇崎ちゃん Posted March 29, 2017 Report Posted March 29, 2017 Because "zu" means "to". In English, you would say "to the house" instead of "tothehouse" for example. Quote
linguaholic Posted March 30, 2017 Report Posted March 30, 2017 Actually "zu Hause" and "Zuhause "are both possible word forms. It depends on the grammatical function of the word. Have a look here to understand better: http://www.duden.de/sprachwissen/sprachratgeber/-i-zu-hause--i--oder--i-zuhause--i- If you don't understand the reasoning, I can explain you :=) Quote
