  4. Hi all Several posts and threads have been made here in "the English corner". The aim of this place is that non-native speakers of English can improve their English skills and that native english-speakers help them to correct their posts! Unfortunately this did not seem to be clear enough, as now we got a lot of posts in here about different topics but no one is actually correcting mistakes. Most of the posts here at the moment are simple "off-topic" posts. I might move them all to the off topic section and we can make a new start in here. Please ONLY post in this section if you are either helping to correct someones use of English OR if you would like to get corrections on your post (you can basically post about anything you want).
  5. 欢迎 Ivanable。 我刚看过你在我们的讨论区写过的芬兰语课文。!真棒了!看起来很复杂!
  6. I might start studying italian as well, as it is an official language of Switzerland. We speak french, german, italian and Romansh in Switzerland. I live in a bilingual city (Biel) and almost everyone speaks french and german there. We have a lot of italians there as well, so being able to communicate in italian would be a good thing. Italy is just an hour away by train from my place in Switzerland, so if I would feel that I need some "immersion", it would be pretty easy to do so :=)
  7. I'm gonna create an Arabic section under "Other languages". If there is a lot of interest in it, I will transform it to a "regular forum with subforums" later on. Regards M
  8. It might be a good idea to start a new thread (Study Portuguese subforum) for this sfimirat! I am sure someone could help you out with that question.
  9. Well, the first poster is a JLPT poster. You can find the definition of what's on it here: http://shop.whiterabbitjapan.com/kanji-wall-poster.html And the second one is a Heisig Poster-->contains all the characters that are introduced in J.W. Heisigs Book "Remember the Kanji". You can find more info here: http://shop.whiterabbitjapan.com/kanji-laminated-wall-poster.html After all, the two posters are almost identical. Doesn't really matter which one you purchase. :wacky:
  10. I am living in Switzerland and here the only thing I am aware of is the JLPT. My brother took it a few years ago. I don't think that there is another widely accepted Japanese exam here in Switzerland. I will have a look at the BJP website. Thank you for sharing this!
  11. This topic has been moved to Study Portuguese. [iurl]http://linguaholic.com/index.php?topic=166.0[/iurl]
  12. Dear Akya Thank you for providing this link. However, there is already a thread about this (it was in the general language section before but I now moved it to the new study korean section). This is the link to the thread: http://linguaholic.com/study-korean/learn-to-read-korean-in-15-minutes/ I will allow myself to delete this thread in a day or two. regards Marcel
  13. Hi there Thank you for the introduction! I had lots of fun to read through it! You already posted quite a lot of stuff in the japanese forums. Thank you very much for that! I am also studying Japanese but my knowledge is still very marginal...I will go to Japan in April though, so I would like to learn the basics until then  Japan is an amazing country and I would love to live there as well for some time. I have to admit I am a little bit jealous :=) best wishes Marcel
  14. Welcome to linguaholic! Wow, it is really nice to have someone from Jamaica join the forums! I (and I am sure also other members here) would love to hear more about Jamaican Creole! Of course we are willing to share our knowledge as well  If you have any questions about linguaholic.com, please let me know! regards Marcel
  15. Hey all It would be really nice if you could speak english in here, so that everyone can benefit from those resources! You can speak Hindi in the Hindi Lounge whenever you would like to...and I actually love to see it:=) looks really beautiful! Thank you for your understanding!
  16. Hi all Upon several requests, I created another subforum called "Other languages". There, you will find a considerable number of other languages (study Korean, study Tamil, study Swedish and so on). All those forums can become regular forums with all the sub-sections that the big forums have (like Japanese, Chinese, German and so on) as soon as they got a considerable amount of posts in it. (I will then be willing to transform them). If you are interested in a language that is currently not listed at all (not as a main forum and neither in other languages), please make a post in the Forum suggestions section and ask for it. Please only do so if you know that there are several members of linguaholic.com interested in it, as it does not make sense to make a new subforum for just one person. Anyway, if you would like to talk about a language that is "forumized", you can ALWAYS use the general discussion forum (general discussion about language) and post your question regarding language X there.
  17. Dear Miya Upon your request (and I have been thinking about this for quite some time anyway), I created a new section called "Other languages". In this section I already created subforums for several languages. I guess it is more structured to do it like this than just create one subforum for all "other languages". If you have a request for another language (please only request another language if you know that several people will be able to contribute to it here on linguaholic.com). Of course, all of those "mini-forums" under "other languages" can become regular forums (with all the subcategories that major languages have) as soon as there is a considerable amount of posts in it. Hopefully this is, after all, what you were looking for Miya. If there is anything else you would like to see on linguaholic.com, please make another requests so that we can discuss about it :=) regards M
  18. Es gibt wohl nur ein paar Leute auf linguaholic.com, welche Portugiesisch sprechen. Es werden aber bestimmt immer mehr werden.
  19. I like that book as well czarownica, as well as all the other books be J.W Heisig. (Remebering the Kanji & Remembering the Hanzi). Have you seen my PM Czarownica? :=) :shy:
  20. I am currently reading a cultural theory book (I need to read for university). The book itself is pretty interesting, going way back explaining how cultural theory evolved over the years and introduces several keywords like "liberal humanism", "structuralism" and "post-structuralism". To show the meaning and differences of all those theories, the books also contain some texts. I particularly liked one of those text and I would like to share it with you. It is called "The oval portrait" from Edgar Allan Poe: "The chateau into which my valet had ventured to make forcible entrance, rather than permit me, in my desperately wounded condition, to pass a night in the open air, was one of those piles of commingled gloom and grandeur which have so long frowned among the Apennines, not less in fact than in the fancy of Mrs. Radcliffe. To all appearance it had been temporarily and very lately abandoned. We established ourselves in one of the smallest and least sumptuously furnished apartments. It lay in a remote turret of the building. Its decorations were rich, yet tattered and antique...." That's all? of course not: please click on the following link to get on the page where you can read the whole short story! http://itech.fgcu.edu/faculty/wohlpart/alra/poe.htm What are your thoughts about the story? (generally speaking or also linguistically)
  21. I studied Hiragana with iPhone Apps and some textbooks. It was pretty easy to study it with just a handful of free apps. It is useful to write down the characters while studying them "on a screen" as writing down characters is most crucial for remembering them at a later point (also how to write them of course).
  22. I can recommend about any book from Haruki Murakami. As my Japanese is very basic, I couldn't read any of his novels in Japanese yet, however, those books are even great in English or German. I guess in Japanese they are even better. So my recommendations would be (my favorite novel by Haruki Murakami) is 1Q84 (いちきゅうはちよん). Another great one is Kafka on the shore (海辺のカフカ).
  23. you will find a poll on top of the screen where you can vote for the most romantic language. Please give your vote (of course you can comment on it as well!)
