I've been interested in learning American Sign Language. I don't know why, but before this thread I didn't realize it varied by language. Thank you for sharing that fact, now im curious. I've learned the alphabet and one or two words. I hope to learn more soon. The town I live in actually has a school for the deaf. I know it would be beneficial in the area I live it.

        Switching languages.

I am able to speak Spanish, English and Chinese. Sometimes when I am in an awkward situation, I call my boyfriend (who is Chinese) and I speak to him about it in Chinese. Not only do I get support from him, but after I hang up the people around me have a new respect for me. My boyfriend is also learning Spanish. So when we are walking together sometimes I speak Spanish, he speaks Chinese, and we both intertwine English. It helps with privacy, and we both feel pretty accomplished that we can speak three languages at the same time.

      3. It was It was really expensive, but I see that as some sort of test too Another way to prove we really love each other and we want to be together. Specially him being dutch Because I don't know if you have heard it, but Dutch are known to be real penny pinchers. We both helped paid the expenses, but I think he was the one who paid the biggest part. Even now my mom says: ''Wow, he must really love you''. LOL

I'm not really sure about differences between countries. I've tried to learn a little bit of British Sign Language but to be honest I've only really mastered the alphabet. My partner knows Makaton which he uses to communicate with the children he cares for at work, I think that is fairly easy to pick up if you put some time into it.
