It never hurts to know how to express your feelings in a foreign language. That’s why today we want to look together at what “Te amo” actually means and from which language it comes.
What does Te Amo mean in English?
“Te Amo” is Spanish and it simply means ‘I love you’ in English. “Te” stands for ‘you’ and “amo” means ‘love’. It is a very formal and affectionate way to say ‘I love you’. You can use “te amo” to let your girlfriend/boyfriend know, that you are deeply in love with her/him.
The personal pronouns in Italian
- Io – I
- Tú – you
- Lui – he
- Lei – she
- Noi – we
- Voi – you
- Loro – they
So why is it not “tú amo” instead of “te amo”, if the pronoun for you is tú? That is because tú is a subject pronoun and te is an object pronoun. In the phrase ‘te amo’, “te” is an object pronoun, therefore “te” must be used.
The word Amo in Spanish
The word “amo” in “te amo” comes from the Spanish verb “amar” which means ‘to love’.
Amo is the first person singular form (present tense) of this verb.
What does “Te amo mucho” much mean in English? “The amo mucho” means ‘I love you very much’ in English. The “mucho” stands for ‘very’ here.
What does “Te amo mi amor” mean in English? “The amo mi amor” means “I love you, my love”. The “mi” corresponds to ‘my’ and ‘amor’ is the Italian noun for ‘love’.
What does “Te quiero” mean in English? “Te Quiero” means ‘I love you’ in English as well, just as “te amo” does. So is there a difference between the two? Yes, indeed. “Te amo” literally means “I love you” and its usage is reserved for a serious relationship. So you would say that to your girlfriend that you love deeply. “Te quiero” on the other hand is much more formal and literally means “I want you”. While it still gets the message of ‘I love you’ across, it is much less formal than “te amo”. You can use “te quiero” when speaking to friends, family and also your girlfriend/boyfriend.
What does “The quiero muchisimo” mean in English? It simply means ‘I love you very much’. So the adverb “muchisimo” stands for ‘very much’.
What does “Te quiero tambien mean in English?” “Te quiero también” means ‘I love you, too’ in English. So “también” simply means ‘too’ in this phrase. “También” stands for ‘me too’, ‘me also’, ‘likewise’ or ‘as well’ depending on the sentence.
