  1. I don't often get puns immediately. It takes me some seconds to digest it :bored:. But once I understand it, I think it is silly . I like pun in movie quotes. I have seen some pictures of movie quotes in reddit. I will share it here when I find them again.
  2. English Vinglish is a bollywood movie which tells the story of a woman who tries to learn English. She was always humiliated by her kids due to her inability to understand English. The problems are doubled when she goes to a foreign country. So she tries to learn English by going to a coaching institution without the knowledge of her family members. This is a feel good movie. The acting of the lead actress is superb. I will recommend it to anyone who wants a taste of bollywood minus the melodrama.
  3. You have to keep speaking the language. Otherwise there is a risk of forgetting words. This is my main worry too. There are not enough opportunity to communicate in a foreign language for me. I only get to speak English when I am playing online games only. Another thing you can do is try to read books in that language. It always helps in refreshing your memory.
  4. I do not think Japanese has a bad reputation. How can a language have a bad reputation? I am willing to learn Japanese too. But I will have to finish learning my current languages before starting with Japanese.
  5. I don't think any new language will appear soon. English is popular all over the world and new words are being added to it also. More and more people are trying to learn English too. I think English has the potential to become a universal language. A language is not born or created in one day. Even if someone creates a new language now, there may not be enough speakers of it. Unlike programming languages, normal languages takes time to evolve.
  6. I have seen the movie and absolutely liked the soundtracks. It was nice to hear this song in different languages. Thanks for sharing .
  7. I think reading aloud helps in understanding it better. I have read somewhere that our brain learns in different ways. It can remember what is seen and what is heard too. So if you are reading aloud, it helps in remembering the content even more.
  8. I think there are different forms of sign languages. I am not sure about it. I would like to learn one which universally recognized. I have a strong intention of learning braille too.
  9. I think it is hard to learn multiple languages at once. It would have been possible when we were kids. Nowadays I don't think I have that much patience :wacky:. But still I try to learn as many as possible. But only one at a time.
  10. Finished reading "The Stand". I strongly recommend you to read it. I am thinking of starting to read all of the works by Stephen King.
  11. I think we are getting dumber by each innovation that is aimed at reducing human work. We don't have to remember things anymore. Before I had a cellphone I had a good memory of my friends' phone numbers and their birthdays. Now I don't remember any. I can get all the information at the press of a button. I used to study new words using a dictionary. Nowadays I don't do it anymore. I can look it up on my mobile dictionary if I encounter a new word. I think we are setting a bad example for the younger generations.
  12. I heard Romanian for the first time in my life in a song by a little girl. I immediately fell in love with the girl and the language . It was a song named Gita by a cute girl named Cleopatra Stratan. I have tried to get all the songs by her afterwards. I don't understand what the words mean. The Gita song had an English version too. That helped me to understand the original. I suggest you guys to hear it too.
  13. When I was in school, we were told to learn 5 words from the dictionary everyday. I used to do it. It has greatly helped in improving my vocabulary. But nowadays it is not possible for me. I use a mobile dictionary nowadays when I encounter a new word. I also use it to check pronunciation of words. I think it is better to learn 3 or 4 words a day if you want to learn a new language. A dictionary will greatly help you in the learning process.
  14. Most of these are commercial films. I don't think it is good to watch these for the purpose of learning the language. This is worth checking out if you want to see quality films. I am not sure whether English subtitles will be available for these movies though.
