  1. I do not think Latin is used day to day anywhere in world anymore, but I think it would be really cool to learn and master this language and then having a conversation with someone of the same skill level on the street. I think it would definitely be a had turner.
  2. I would say: Hungarian - Native Speaker Romanian - C2 (I live and grew up here) German - C2 (I also lived in Germany in Austria and went to school there) English - C2 (Virtually everything I do or everywhere I look has something to do with the English language)
  3. I always loved Chinese and Japanese script, and was always fascinated with it. Arabic is also very cool, as is Sanskrit, in my opinion.
  4. I would definitely say, Offline. Having a good teacher and actually speaking the language with someone, cannot be beaten by Online courses and audio tapes. The best way to learn a language is to speak it and use it in conversations and through socialization.
  5. The mixture of the language is really interesting. I cannot imagine what a mix of spanish and latin and Philippine dialects would sound like. But it is sure fascinating. Would be cool to have more info on this particular language.
  6. I think learning 5 languages at once can be quite challenging, especially if the languages are not related to one another. In my opinion, it is best to learn 1 language at a time, getting quite good at it, and then moving on to learn a new one. That way you are sure to get quite proficient in the languages you want to learn.
  7. I think people in most countries cut you some slack if you cannot really speak their language or if you are just starting out and trying to communicate with what sentences you know. You should ignore those people that make fun of you because you are a foreigner, those people are in a minority.
  8. That`s how I learned English, along with what I learned in school: Watching cartoons with subtitles. It is a great way to learn a language, because you associate what you hear with what you read and learn words and sentences with ease. Keep it up!
  9. I think it is always the case with langauges. Speaking and learning how to speak a languages, has a lot to do with audio learning. As in, by what you hear, and repeating patterns and sounds. But if you really want to master a language and how to write it, it is a totally different matter. Take Hungarian for example. Learning to speak it is quite easy, but writing and reading it, is extremely hard, due to the fact that what you speak out, is totally different when you write it down.
  10. I`m currently trying to learn Italian. It is the closest language to one that I already know (Romanian), and I think I should be able to learn it pretty fast. The next one after that would be Spanish, which is also a Latin type of language, from the same family.
  11. Just try and relax and try to adjust yourself to talking another language then what you are used to. I know it can be hard sometimes to switch from one language to the other, but after a while, it will come naturally.
  12. I will be checking out the Latin section for sure. I have been taught Latin for at least 4-5 years in High School, but I was never able to master it. I think I can translate some common stuff, but I have still a lot to learn.
  13. Hi everyone! I`m Chris, I`m from Romania, and the languages I know are English, German, Romanian and Hungarian. I`m looking forward to talking with all of you and let me know if I can help you out with any language knowledge. Cheers!
  14. Ich kenne Nina Hagen auch, und Ich liebe Ihre Musik. Einen anderen Deutschen Saenger den ich sehr mag ist Falco. Modern Talking ist auch eine echt gute alte Disko Band aus den 80-ern.
  15. I definitely have an Eastern-European or even Russian accent when I speak English. But I like to think that is not a bad thing at all. As long as people understand what I want to say, it is fine by me.
  16. Learning multiple languages at once is definitely a hard task, but not impossible. I myself know 4 languages and combining them is not that hard once you set your mind to it. The only difficulty I have is using one of those 4 that I have not used for a long time, and I usually require a few days to re-accommodate to it.
  17. Combining a hobby with language learning is totally awesome in my opinion. More so, if it is all about food as well. I think sharing food and a common language is a great way to learn about another culture.
  18. I definitely think that you can forget a lot of what you once knew in terms of your native language if you are not exposed to it at all. But I don`t think you can totally forget how to speak it. It also depends on how long you have been using it before moving to a place that does not expose you to it at all.
  19. For me, it has to be Leslie Nielsen. His movies have made me laugh harder then any other comedy actors. Another great one in my opinion is Chevy Chase. His Christmas Vacation movies are true classics of this genre.
  20. English is definitely a very easy language to learn. The level of exposure to this language nowadays is extreme. Many languages even adopt English terms used in global media. I think from all world languages, English is one of the easiest to learn. But that is also a good thing for people having a native language other then English to pick up another language to learn and master.
  21. In Romania, English is a staple in education, starting even at the pre-school level. French is also a very important part of High-School. I have been learning English for at least 20 years now, and most of it came from school, but also from the general media, like the Internet, TV Shows and Cinema.
  22. Hello, everyone. I`m Chris, I`m 31 years old and I`m interested in languages of all kinds. I have been brought up in a multilingual environment. I speak fluent Romanian, Hungarian, German and English, but look forward to learn even more languages. I always thought communication to be fascinating and speaking someones native tongue is the best way to make friends in my experience. Looking forward to sharing experiences with all of you! Cheers.
