Came here to advertise? Read first   12/05/2016

Over the last few months, there's been a huge increase of members coming here just to advertise their own products, services, or whatever.
This is fine, but the "General Discussions" section is not the right place. If you came here to advertise anything you made or provide yourself, do this here.
If you came here to advertise anything you love to use, do it here. Thank you for your understanding. And remember: anything we consider spam is subject to the ban hammer. Any smash is available free of charge.

  1. German Translation Game

It should have been read: "You don't get a six-pack from drinking [them]!"
  2. Medals

  3. Good textbooks

"Komm mit!" is a good starter textbook series.
  4. Bonjour from Mauritius

  5. slang

Frankly I think it depends on who you're talking to. You'd not use slang in a professional environment but walking around the street with friends I'd assume it's okay.
  6. Medals

I see some users have medals in their postbits with different flags. How can I obtain one or more?
  7. I doubt sincerely it is taught in standard German schools. I would be willing to bet it's really only taught for students taking Calligraphy.
  8. Ändern is used for small things, personality traits, etc., whereas verändern is used for bigger things, like your entire life. So, in the context of your question, geändert would be appropriate.
  9. German Translation Game

Cats want shoes too* "I have no idea" Man kriegt wahrscheinlich kein Waschbrett vom Saufen.
  10. Any good study apps? [GERMAN]

Downloading it now! Thanks! Also, I did forget one app: iMasterGerman - it contains lots of good charts on German grammar such as pronouns, weak and strong adjective declension, etc. There is a free and paid version: Free: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/imastergerman/id594596706?mt=8 Paid: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/imastergerman-pro/id605002748?mt=8
  11. Any good study apps? [GERMAN]

There are very few that will teach you a full German course well. There are, however, a combination of good apps that will give you a good handle on grammar and vocabulary: Dict.cc Dictionary: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dict.cc+-dictionary/id521791825?mt=8 German verb trainer: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/german-verb-conjugation-trainer/id417027134?mt=8 German verb conjugations: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/german-verb-conjugator-now/id385464568?mt=8
  12. Here are a couple as well: Grammar review: http://www.dartmouth.edu/~german/Grammatik/Grammatik.html More grammar: http://www.german-grammar.de/grammar/content/english_german_table_of_content.htm German/English dictionary (they have other languages as well): http://www.dict.cc/
  13. Hello from Germany

    Willkommen im Forum!
  14. Mind Snacks App, iOS [GERMAN]

I used it for a while and I found it to be a tedious way to learn vocabulary. A method I used was to make stickers of the most common words for things I have in my house. I taped those stickers to the items and that really helped me quite a bit.
  15. ihre or Ihre ?!!?

It's only capitalized when you're speaking formally. In all other instances, it's lowercase. Also, the word Ihnen is capitalized when speaking formally as well. When I was first learning German, this is the resource I used to memorize pronouns: http://german.speak7.com/german_pronouns.htm
