It is actually easy to notice where the accent has been exaggerated in anime. Its mostly for comedic or dramatic effect. My knowledge of Japanese is limited to just common words and a few phrases but pretty much everything I know has been learnt from watching anime with subtitles. So, I can definitely see how it can help. Can't really replace actual teaching but not bad as a supplement to keep you in touch with the language while you're learning it.

The accent completely butchers the phrase. I've always been curious about how a Japanese person would sound speaking in Hindi. Now I know.

I am a very fast reader. It probably has to do with the fact that I have been reading a lot ever since I was a little kid. I don't think there is a better way to improve your reading pace than just reading a lot. After a while your brain just gets used to processing everything really quickly.

Well considering all the languages all over the country and their many dialects, a total count of both may go over even 2000, so 1000 isn't really a stretch. These are all unconfirmed though.

Just my opinion though.

Not really. From what I can see only a small percentage of the general population has a good command over the language. There is a fair percentage which can just about get by but most people who don't live in the big cities are fairly weak in their command over the language.

Dan Brown had the conceit to write that Da Vinci Code was a fictional story based around actual facts. I don't know what's sad, the fact that his work sells or the fact that people actually believe that they are learning actual facts about religion and history by reading his works.

Neither. Both are incredibly bad. But if you still want to choose between one, Twilight is better written. It is at least a legit novel written keeping a particular demographic in mind, 50 shades is just poorly written torture porn.

While we are on the topic of Gaiman (he's my absolute favorite author), do get Smokes and Mirrors for his short stories. He also gives an introduction to each story in this one and they are occasionally really interesting reads.

Not usually noticed as such but even 'zoom' is an onomatopoeia. It resembles the sound of something moving very fast. Eg - The car zoomed past me on the highway.

Depends on the subject and the importance of it. I have felt absolutely relaxed to dangerously nervous for different exams with everything in between. Haven't ever been nervous for an English exam though. I, for some reason, have always done well in those. :grin:

'Apparently'. Its a simple enough word but I just can't seem to get it right and have to write it twice every time I use it.

Haven't been placed as yet but from personal experience during college job placements, I've seen that unless you know English, it's very difficult getting a job. So, for us its less a case of getting job because you know it and more a case of 'not getting it' because you don't know the language.

Anita Blake books for always annoying and had possibly one of the worst protagonist in history. Just my opinion though. I suppose works like Twilight don't count because I don't really care for their existence and hating them would be a waste of time. There is one series though. I remember reading Eragon as a kid and thinking it was decent. Then I read Lord of the Rings, saw Star Wars and a bunch of other works Christopher Paolini shamelessly bastardizes and I couldn't help but hate the works. Kudos to him for writing a novel at the age of 16 but the problem is, his works read like they were written by a 16 yr old and unfortunately, not a particularly imaginative 16 yr old.

Ah when there is even confirmation required as to whether there are more things which fit the rule or the exception, one can be sure that the rule is useless.

That's an issue only with the private sector. Its still possible to get decent government jobs even without knowing English.

I am surprised how often this rule was taught in schools to you people. I seem to have been underestimating Indian English teaching because we were never taught rules like this. :grin:
