I had my books and tapes and I wrote everything down in paper, my study noted was my notebook, I can't study without my hand-written notes, it's an addiction I have.

sempre às ordens means anytime. (literally means always at your service)

I can speak German, Russian and Spanish basically, but I've studied a dozen more. I was working with a publishing house and I needed to have some knowledge about specific languages to review a sensitive book in those languages.  :grin:

Growing a kid multilingual is a good motivation, but it seems a hard one too. How do you plan to do it, speak the three languages around her?  :wacky: Kids are really sharp, possibly she will make it.

You're quite right, our food is great especially seafood! Visiting Brazil during the Olympics should be great, I was never in Brazil, but I'm sure I'd enjoy their beaches...  :grin:

Once you've learned the language you need to keep it active. You can practice here, you can read books, you can listen to Portuguese radio stations online, watch movies with English subtitles, quite a few options available.  :party:

Hey there honia, welcome to linguaholic. Japanese is hard I can agree with you, but I'm pretty sure that with time you will make it at least to speak it. About learning all the characters, I don't think that even the Japanese know them all?

Yep, I had that impression for Americans regarding other aspects of the world, now I've learned it's the same with languages. Well you and quite a few other Americans are here, it can't be that bad!  :wacky:
