  1. Of course. I don't mind if my children don't talk a second language. I think it's completely normal to know only one language.
  2. In my opinion, I don't think it's not necessary. However, I think if you want to have a more interesting life, you should definitely learn at least 2 languages.
  3. If I had enough time and money, sure why not. It's always good to learn a new language in the country where it's spoken the most. It'll probably be tough at first though... the culture shock
  4. When I was about 3 years old, I started to learn Japanese. My dad was Japanese and he would teach me time to time... making me watch Japanese cartoons and stuff . It was a pretty fun time of my life.
  5. Anything that is similar to English and that uses the alphabet system is the easiest... for me. For others it may be something else but those are the easiest for me.
  6. Probably remembering the vocabulary. For example, I want to say the word "dog" but I don't know how to say it. Tough stuff if you ask me. Also, if it is not an alphabet system (ex: Chinese), then it is much more difficult because you have to remember all the characters.
  7. When I was a kid in Canada, I attended French immersion school. Pretty much everything was in French (obviously English was taught in English lol). It was a good experience . Any of you attended immersion school?
  8. I generally agree with what you are saying. You get to experience new culture and you get to talk to a lot more people . I am multilingual and it's great. You get to speak to people in their native language and is often easier to express themselves.
  9. I would say yes. They are somewhat the same. I haven't studied Italian yet. However, I can tell you that Spanish and French are very similar. For example, the verb structures. They are pretty much the same.
  10. Yes, I over use that word... A LOT. Every time I'm talking to my friends, I tend to use the word lol at the end of each sentence. lol.
  11. I don't really like writing poetry, but I do love reading poetry. I also like listening to poetry (someone presenting it). I think it's a great way to learn the language .
  12. I'll admit. I sometimes use short-cuts when I am chatting or texting online. However, I do find it annoying though (yes I know... the irony). I don't think it's bad though. Nothing wrong with saying lol or cya .
  13. Hey, thanks for sharing this! My uncle's family who doesn't really speak much English (but are trying to learn it) will find this very helpful. They always play board games so I think this will be great for them.
  14. Sweet! I always wanted to learn Korean so this is great! Thanks a bunch.
  15. I think it varies for people. Some people are more proficient than others when studying by themselves. Some people need more of a "study" environment to help them focus because when they are alone, they tend to do their own stuff. For myself, I prefer to learn by myself. I can go at my own pace. Faster...slower...
  16. Yes. Languages sound different. For example, Chinese and French are COMPLETELY different and sound different by nature. Of course, languages like Spanish and Italian might sound kind of similar, but they are still different. Tomato Tomatoe.
  17. In my opinion, I have to say Chinese is hard to learn. Remembering all the Chinese characters is extremely difficult for me. What about you guys? What's the most difficult language to learn from scratch?
  18. Not yet, but I would like to in the future. I think it will be a good experience to learn new culture and new language. I think the only problem I will encounter is the culture shock of the new country.
  19. I wouldn't say I mastered it, but I am pretty proficient at French. I've been learning French for a very long time and I can understand stuff on French TV, movies, etc... I agree with the post above that "mastered" is a fuzzy concept.
  20. Yes and no. I lived in China for 6 months and my English is still fine. My chinese however is ..well... has a "chinese" accent. Whereas before was an "english" accent (like someone trying to speak chinese if you know what I mean).
  21. Uhh actually Neko is JAPANESE for cat... just saying. As for the video, it was pretty cute . Always good to learn some new tips.
  22. I would say about an hour to 2 hours. It really depends. For some people, they can get it right away. For some, it might take a long time to learn this language. The most important part when studying a language is to be consistent with your studies. If it is not, you will fall behind really fast.
  23. I know I am. It helps my French a lot. Just listening to them talk is very very helpful. What about you guys?
  24. I believe that Italian is a romantic language. Always wanted to learn it but it seems very difficult . Maybe one day.
  25. Yes, Chinese is very useful in my life. My brother in-law is chinese and so is his family. Getting to talk to him and his family is pretty cool.
