  1. I believe both ways of studying English or other languages is the best. Studying it in class and again studying it at home. The more you study, speak and think about what you are learning, the better the results would be. Utilizing all the tools to learn a language is the best way to approach it and you can do it wherever you are and whenever you want to.

  2. Google translate is only good for translating words. If you input sentences, it would be hilarious to read since the grammar, context and the meaning of the words are all jumbled-up. A computer cannot process grammar, context and the correct meaning of words that is why we have problems like this. In order for you to translate what you want you must enter it word per word which is really futile and tiring since we do not have the luxury of time for those.

  3. I don't think you could put a time table for which one would have a high proficiency in speaking a language. It actually depends on the willingness and the capacity of a person to learn the language and to put it in to practice by speaking and writing. Some people may even become proficient within 4 years or less specially when they are very interested in the language they are trying to learn and have been practicing it everyday since.

  4. Yes. English is a very beautiful language especially in poetry, speeches and even debate. I admire the intonation and phonetics of the English language. Most people who speak English very fluently are also admirable and makes them even more attractive than those who can't speak a language fluently.

  5. I'm a Filipino, I'm comfortable speaking my native language, writing not so much. I'm not that good at it, I know it's embarrassing but I guess I have to blame the colonial mentality that was fed to us at an early age. Always pertaining to foreign things as better and who can blame us the government is corrupt and only the families of these politicians are benefiting from the money that's supposed to be for the masses.

  6. When I read the title, I too would have mentioned the "tip of the tongue" problem.  I studied psychology and there is actually something called TOT state (which means "tip of the tongue").  Apparently we sometimes draw something to our short term memory in preparation to speak and it somehow get jangled in the processing.  The best thing I have always heard is move on and don't try to force it out..and usually it does just come back when you are not trying to hard to remember.  If I recall it has something to do with the way our minds process and encode words.

Thank you for this information. Now that I think of it, is does make sense. Perhaps all of those times I lose my momentum and can't recall what I'm about to say is because of this state or the short term memory mix. ^_^

  7. I usually study for a short time and with the maximum length for a day if not for a week. And along with it comes rushing and cramming all the ideas and the words that I should remember and understand. When the feeling of studying hits me, I should continue it so that I can learn a lot.
