  1. Personally, I think it would depend on the teacher. Otherwise, I find the school system a little burdensome. I like to cheat - easy as possible. But that's me.
  2. Gee, did not expect this much buzz around my beehive! Seems people get extremely interested in Spanish and French. Spanish particularly. Guess both are rather beautiful languages, and also common. French, you have access to France, canada, etc. Spanish, you get Spain, Mexico, etc.
  3. First of all, you did sound a little upset. And I do know you from Adam. My posts were two separate posts. Anyway, lets let bygones be bygones. I agree Ariana. Japanese does sound extremely professional. Complicated, too! Yes, some aspects of french are a little nasal, but a true, elegant french sounds delicious to the ears. English, I don't associate to be very posh, as I live in an area not-too-rife with beautiful speech :bored: However, I see what you mean. Michael Caine for the win!
  4. I absolutely adore every language. But I adore Arabic. It just sounds gentle. Close runner-up is the sound of Polish I sorta dislike German. Just sounds angry. All the time.
  5. Wow! Looks like your going to grow like a lotus flower here. Three languages, all of them quite different is quite an achievement. I raise my hat to you, sir. Welcome to... Linguaholic!
  6. Wow, first english-native-speaker for a while. I'm glad you are picking up spanish. Welcome! BTW what is duolingo?
  7. Greetings from England! Welcome to a wide variety of Language Enthusiasts from all around the world! Oh my... at one point, I tried to learn Japanese. Failed badly, started learning Russian. But, may try a second swing at some point
  8. Gee, calm down, spacetime! Anyway, to me, French, as a language, sounds sophisticated. More specifically, Edith Piaf's French Accent. Stunning.
  9. Greetings from England! Welcome to Linguaholic. I have a friend who is learning Spanish. I want to say... Hi!
  10. Ha, I never thought of having a pen pal as a reason! And yes, I do not really have a massive goal in learning Russian. Just kind of a fun thing to do. And AE, yes, I am not perfect in my second language either.
  11. Wow. Makes my reasons of "there were a few tapes lying around" seem quite shallow now But I agree, Jessi, I also wanted to speak every language in the world. I think there was a guy who spoke, like, 2,000 languages or something But don't bet on it.
  12. Unfortunately, no. However, wouldn't it be good if there was 1 universal sign language? Then, wherever you went, you could use it to communicate. Would give a whole new meaning to talking with your hands
  13. Hello There Andrew! Glad to see more language enthusiasts in the Brotherhood of Languages I hope you enjoy your stay. There are so many languages here, I'm sure you will fit right in.
  14. Bit of an old-movie moment... "Crisis or no, nothing interferes with tea!" - Around the world in 80 Days
  15. Yes, unfortunately I just made one like this, not realising it existed. I don't really have a reason for learning an individual language. I just wanted to learn a language, and I happened to have a few Russian tapes lying around. Same reason I'm learning Polish next
  16. Mmm... thats a toughy. I'd say Hebrew, because learning possibilities are quite minimal, and only a few rare languages are anywhere near hebrew. English isn't like it. Russian isn't like it. Heck, turkish isn't like it. It is very unique. Even the asian languages, I watched enough kung fu films to get used to the feel. But Hebrew, I would say is the toughest for me. Oh man, Taa... :amazed:
  17. Why did you start studying your languages? Some learn for work. Some for necessity. Some simply for fun. My reason: I wish to become multilingual, and hopefully get a job teaching english or another language. Also, languages are fun. Your reasons?
  18. Hey there Soul, I have also just joined a few days ago. Glad to seee a fellow Linguaholic!
  19. mainly words such as necessity, relevance, where I have to double consonants or use letters that are a or e but I pronounce them similar Funnily enough, I spell the word disintegrated with and I instead of e in the middle
  20. My favorite is still "It cost me an arm and a leg". I know what it means (I am a native english speaker) but it is awful... who in the world pays in arms and legs? Did some guy have not enough change to pay a cannibal?
  21. I recently posted a thread in site suggestions on possibly giving polish a place on this site. I was told if enough people got interested, it might get some thought. I am not studying it at the moment, but is anyone interested?
  22. Ah OK, I shall make a few posts Yes, I can see 50 or 70 threads can be a bit cumbersome. Don't worry, not suggesting that Thanks for your quick reply!
  23. Hi guys, just a newbie here. I noticed down at the bottom there were many languages, but not polish. How about we change that? Why? 1) Wouldn't you love to walk into a polish deli and actually understand the ingredients? 2) There are many polish in the west. 3) On a selfish note, I shall be learning polish at some point So why not! We are all linguaholics here, correct?
  24. Thanks both of you for your kind reply Looking forward to learning with all of you, languages are more than just a hobby to me. I am amazed to see that many of you on this forum study 2 languages at a time! I am almost through my foundation course, so should be getting more serious very soon. Thankyou for the links, linguaholic. they shall be bookmarked very soon! Dance on, Lady!
  25. Hi There I am a young man with a passion for language learning. I wish to speak, read and understand many languages, over the period of my life. I am hoping to enjoy learning and growing in this community of linguaholics! Currently learning Russian with the Michel Thomas Method, and will soon be moving onto Polish. I will then be learning arabic, sadly without michel thomas :sweating: I hope we shall all learn together. Sincerely, Quicklearner. A.K.A. Quick.
