  1. Although and even though are conjunctions, which means that they have the same meaning. We can use either one, it does not make a difference. I sometimes think that there is place for them; I would use Although at the beginning of a sentence instead of even though but it is up to the individual as they mean the same.
  2. Yes I agree, that once you know one of the European languages like Spanish, Italian or French it is so easy to pick up and learn the others. Greek is difficult but Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and also French are much easier once you know one of them.
  3. I would also agree that British English sounds so sophisticated. It reminds me of "James Bond" and his sophisticated linguistics which come ou sounding so educated and proper. Another language I feel sounds sophisticated is the old Irish accent, the one that "Tom Cruise" used in the movie "Far and Away." It is a rich and classy sounding accent too.
  4. Absolutely! I find that once you have learned a language or two then it is definitely easier to pick up another language and you will find that you can learn a fourth or even more. I would love to be able to speak in any language as it is so nice to be able to communicate with people from all over the world.
  5. I think French is a valuable language to learn as it is taught in almost every country. English is also the most common language and in many countries you will always find someone that can communicate in English.
  6. I would say that Chinese, Hebrew and Arabic languages are the hardest to learn. Many people have told me that Italian is difficult because there is a male and female for everything and the tenses are hard to understand. I guess it depends on the individual and their home language too. For me understanding Italian made it easier to learn Spanish, Portuguese and French as the words are similar in meaning.
  7. Thank you I will test it when I have a block in memory. It is good to know that there is a place with quick access to check for grammar mistakes as it delays everything when having to revert to a book or a dictionary for the correct use of grammar.
  8. I find that reading is a fantastic way to improve grammar. I always tell my kids to read as often as they can as it gives you more literacy and it also gives you more intelligence. There is nothing better than being able to use big words in a sentence as it sounds fantastic and the peson speaking sounds well educated.
  9. I think that many of us confuse these words often, English speaking people make these mistakes on a regular basis. My mistake with spelling errors is with lose and loose and another one is quiet, quiete. I always seem to spell these incorrectly and obviously the meanings are completely different.
  10. Italian translation: Buongiorno - bwon georno Come stai? - coh- meh - sty Come ti chiamo? - coh - meh - ti - key - amo Mi chiama Natasha ( if it is a boy mi chiamo)
  11. Internet translators are not the most accurate way to use a different language. I find that the best way to translate is to get someone that speaks the language to help you. There are dictionaries but unless you know the tenses in a foreign language, it might come out incorrect.
  12. If you have to pay a registration fee, then it is a scam. There are many translations jobs if you look on a few websites or google. The translators get good pay but you have got to have experience and you have to be fluent in the language to get the chosen job. It will not allow you to use a web translator and they will not pay you if it is not accurate.
  13. I find google to be good with translations but it is not exactly the same as knowing the language. Many of the words get switched as you convert the tense we speak in to the one in the required language. Some of the words get muddled and come out with a different meaning to the one you actually would like to use.
  14. That sounds very interesting and a great way to learn without getting confused. I am certain that this will go down well and people will actually understand and soak it in the first time as a good way to remember.
  15. I think sometimes we have to be careful of trying to correct someone but if you need to do it in order to help them then just in a suttle way, let them know that the word sounds better this way.
  16. What happened to any writing? With the internet and the world of technology, people have forgotten how to write and how to communicate without shorthand and predictive text. Sadly cursive writing is lost like the remainder of the script and what a waste as it is so beautiful and I actually miss writing letters and curving some of the alphabet to personalise it.
  17. I find learning languages from the movies is an easy way to get to know the language if you are able to watch it a few times. The subtitles help too and can be useful in learning languages, especially with little children who love to watch television. For me, the best option would be to learn the language in the country as you are forced to learn it quickly.
  18. My favourite language is Italian because I am Italian and it is so expressive! I also like French and my worst I think would be Russian or German because it is difficult and also sounds a little less attractive than the others.
  19. That does sound strange but I think that you can use it in that way. The proper or correct way would be to use "people from the age of 16 onwards"
  20. I love languages and to be able to communicate in any country with anyone is fantastic. I went to Paris and could not understand what was going on and where I needed to be, so I decided to do a crash course in order to get around in every country. Needless to say, the next time I was in Paris, I could understand and ask for directions and good places to go.
  21. Hi everyone just a quick note to introduce myself. I am a South African Italian and I speak 3 languages. I love languages and would love to learn as many as I can. Look forward to chatting with you all.
