  1. It is important to learn how to pronounce words because sometimes the way words are said could mean something completely different or you will find people still don't understand you. To do this it is a good idea to get a video or sound clip of words that you have troubles with so that you are able to play back and repeat what you are hearing.
  2. I would say I can only think of feed then because nothing else would make sense if you are talking about them feeding each other.
  3. It is a difficult language to learn if you have no idea where to get the lessons. I Find that learning online can sometimes be a little difficult but it is really interesting to do and learning from a youtube course or a tv show is the easiest way to learn but I would suggest also going to Italy to learn!
  4. I love Shakespeare because I am in the arts but it is a hard read if you cant really speak English fluently. I love reading these works because they are full of intriguing sayings, difficult wording and dramatic story telling in a whimsical sort of way. Have you read Shakespeare and which is your favourite?
  5. Many people get confused by this but it is easy to understand once you have been told how to work it. Words like receive, receipt and conceive are the rule of thumb. Can you think of words that have I before E and E after I Lets see what you come up with!
  6. I have read Italian and Afrikaans books but only because I understand the languages. I can imagine it might be rather difficult to read another language if you don't understand it.
  7. I have never heard of this word and I presume you mean to "make love" but not sure. What language are you translating from because you can go online to bing translator and find what you are looking for there
  8. get onto the internet and have a look for an alphabet lesson on youtube. You will find it helpful because it gives you the words and allows you to listen and pronounce them. It can also be paused so that you can go back and hear it again.
  9. I think that most of them are covered here and there are a few that I like; take a chill pill go under the knife I honestly cant seem to think of any others.
  10. There are so many papers that I have seen with words in italics when they are not supposed to be there, so when is the correct time to place words into italics? You put a word into italics when you are quoting someone or something, e.g. "Get out of the car" said the man to his children. Italics are used only when you are quoting someone or using a quote that does not belong to you, the italics give people the message that what is in the brackets is something someone else has said.
  11. Many people get confused with past tense wording but it is simple. I am going to the store to get some milk - I went to the store to get some milk Does anyone know of easier ways to explain the tenses?
  12. Notice is different to Realise as the meaning is not the same. I noticed that the traffic light was missing a globe. I did not realise that you were offended by my comment. I noticed that you seemed a little gloomy I did not realise that I was the cause of your sadness
  13. I have found that in schools teaching little children, they depend on dictionaries a lot. Should we not be teaching children through books and reading, spelling and dictation rather than giving them a lazy way to learn words, look up the meaning in the dictionary, how does this teach you the true meaning of the word and how to use it? Here is a word that we should all learn: Read to read is to educate, to learn and to be literate with vocabulary that can help you progress through to the future as an intelligent and well learned person. Take out a book and READ
  14. It is not difficult if you read the entire six paragraphs and then you will find the order that they need to go into automatically. The start of a story will become clear as well as the ending right away and the middle pieces will be easy to puzzle together once you have read over it a few times.
  15. Greetings and words to get you by are easy to learn if you go to memorise or you find a program on youtube that will help you with pronounciation. It helps to know a few words if you want to travel to the country as it makes it a little easier for you to get around and forothers to help you.
  16. Anything that you need to say should be said out loud so that you can understand what needs to have expression and what doesn't. When you use exclamatives it should be for accentuating a sentence or a word that is either said with passion, anger or awe.
  17. I cant really remember any book quotes off hand but I must say that one of my favourite books was "Lord of the Flies" it was set on an Island and it was a fantastic read.
  18. I find that adding these words to the dictionary is ludicrous!!! They are not real words and our vocabulary is becoming weaker and weaker. Shocking that the future generation will never be able to write or read great language books and understand them, unless they are written in text language.
  19. It is a little confusing but when you read through the paragraphs then it does make sense as to which one should be first and last. A story always starts with an introduction and a middle and then the end has the conclusion to the first paragraph in it. They can be complicated when the paragraphs given are extracts from a book or not complete and this can make it rather difficult but always read through a few times and this will help you make sense of which is first, second and last.
  20. Ciao -pronounced chow meaning hello and goodbye Come stai? pronounced kom e sty meaning how are you mi chiamo e donna pronounced me key a more - meaning my name is donna Piacere - pee a chair e meaning - pleasure If all lese fails just give a big smile say ciao and give a hug! You are set for someone to help you
  21. I think that it is the writers choice whether or not they would like to tell the story from years ago or whether they are writing about what they are presently experiencing. I write in the present tense and in some chapters might revert back to the past but always as if I am telling the story now.
  22. Killing two birds with one stone, never count your chickens before they hatch. Those are the first two that I learned and as the years have gone by I have heard so many unusual ones and some very odd creations that my kids have tought me but I have had to correct them on these as they are not English language and have made idioms slang or text friendly!
  23. I love to read and there is nothing better than the smell of fresh pages in a new book whilst relaxing on a deck chair and flipping the pages, when you are in need of a break yo then use a bookmark to keep your place and this to me is a fantastic way to read. The ebook has taken over from paperback and do you think that we will finally lose the paper and all conform to internet and ebook reading?
  24. What a good topic and it makes you think! Who knew and I guess everyone assumes that the italics are a swearword in every language. I have never used it except for in a text and people know what I mean!
  25. There are a number of ways to say hello in every country, slang or formal! In south africa howsit! is the most common one used for each nationality in the country. A word and greeting that everyone knows.
