Thanks for the list! I'd heard most of these, but "wie Faust aufs Auge" is new to me. Definitely going to want to look up some more contexts for that one so I get a good understanding of it. Honestly, my favorite part of language learning has always been the expressions etc. that make them unique from others.

I have an interest in learning Gaelic, so I would be very excited to see this added so I could start poking at resources, even though I am personally not yet ready to pick up another language while working on the two I'm polishing. Ohh, thanks for sharing. This looks like a really great tool for early on. Especially for people like me who have a hard time getting down visual characters and remembering them and what sounds they go with.

It's definitely being done outside America very commonly. I know most young children in Germany speak at least a little English, for instance (which was really fun when I studied abroad there and we helped each other learn). But America is not taking initiative in this area, leaving foreign language education often until high school, which wastes a great window of early learning opportunity.

Do you happen to have the context? Because now I'm curious. I've mainly heard it used to mean difficult, but that's probably because I was around college students while I was in Germany. That said, Kektheman is totally right, it can mean either in any given situation.

Hello everyone! I am an American who just graduated this May with a degree in German. I studied abroad in Germany for 6 months learning the language and the city where I stayed. I've been in love with the language since I was around 5 years old, trying to teach myself from an English-to-German dictionary (with debatable success rates). I took French, however, in high school, at the urging of my mother. Since college German, my French has been almost completely erased. I want to relearn very badly, and keep both strong. It's nice to meet everyone!

I'd also love to play some word games -- they've always been popular in my family, and using them to learn a new language would be fantastic. Does anyone happen to know, as a sidenote, if there are any good free online word games in other languages? I haven't had much luck searching.
