I was inspired by the monstrous and very entertaining and educational English quotes thread.  Does anyone have any favorite French quotes?

"C'etait une nuit extraordinaire" opening line in Giono's Que ma joie demeure. Devastating line when you go re-read the novel.

"Cela est bien, mais il faut cultiver notre jardin." - Closing line from Voltaire's short story, 'Candide.' It is not only a great closing line, it is also great advice for life.

"Si jeunesse savait, si vieillesse pouvait." I think of this quote every time I think about all the classes I could have taken, all the A's I could have gotten, and all I could have accomplished when I was younger if I knew what I know today. So basically, I'm thinking about this quote all the time.  ;D

I also like this quote: "Il n'y a qu' un bonheur dans la vie, c'est d'aimer et d'être aimé." -Georges Sand.

Well, my favorite French quote is "Le sens commun est fort rare." from Voltaire which translates to "Common sense is quite rare" and is also known in this form: "Common sense is not so common", it's a bit rude but, probably, that's why I like it .

My favorite French quote would be:

La vérité vaut bien qu'on passe quelques années sans la trouver.

Translation:

Truth is more valuable if it takes you a few years to find it. -Renard

I love the way it sounds when I say it but also love what the quote stands for!

In the dawn, armed with a burning patience, we shall enter the splendid Cities.

My favorite quote is from a children's book actually. Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupéry. I think I've mentioned several times that it's my favorite children's book. Anyway, I just love the lessons I got from that book. Especially this one:

Voici mon secret.

I want to get this thread moving again. We need some extra life in the french quarter. :) So, here's a couple more quotes that I like...

"Vivre sans aimer n’est pas proprement vivre." --Molière

"C’est cela l’amour, tout donner, tout sacrifier sans espoir de retour." --Albert Camus

great quotes. I like the one from Albert Camus! When I was still in school, we had to read some of his books! I really enjoyed reading his works.

My favorite will always be the quote I learned from a textbook and explained by our teacher - "C'est en forgeant qu'on devient forgeron." (It's in forging we become forger). It is a very inspiring quote, whenever I think of it, I feel like I can achieve a lot of things. I think it is similar to the popular English quote -"Practice makes perfect."
