gjp Posted April 25, 2017 Report Posted April 25, 2017 Hi, Could someone translate this phrase into English or just explain why it is funny? Is there any culture-specific humour involved here that I don't get? I'd really appreciate your help. "Vous êtes d'où? Oui." Thank you! Quote
Bacadoudou Posted May 16, 2017 Report Posted May 16, 2017 Hi gjp, Well, the truth is ... it took me 10 seconds to get it (at least, I think) ^^. I think you can understand it only by saying it out loud": "Vous êtes d'où? Oui." is nonsense, it means "Where are you from? Yes." BUT "Vous êtes doux? Oui." would be translated by "Are you gentle? Yes I am." Both are pronounced the same way, but everything here is a question of spelling. Hope I could help you properly ;). Quote
gjp Posted May 16, 2017 Author Report Posted May 16, 2017 Hi, Thank you! I got it right then, I just didn't think that was really funny I thought there was another funny element in the joke that I didn't get. Quote
Bacadoudou Posted May 16, 2017 Report Posted May 16, 2017 Is it a quote from one of Gad Elmaleh's show ? Otherwise, I do not find it that funny neither ^^ Quote
