  1. Yeah English is pretty much a very active part in our curriculum. All subjects except for Filipino was taught in English.
  2. What a passionate skeptic we have here. Just read these links for your further negation. Our minds are made up already anyway. Take note, even the doctors and researchers acknowledge ESP. As a layman, how can you prove that it doesn't exist? http://whofortedblog.com/2013/04/09/telepathic-girl-baffles-researchers-ability-read-minds/ http://www.sheldrake.org/Research/telepathy/
  3. Don't mind your husband's family, you did the right thing. Children are the most malleable people in the world when it comes to learning something new, so take advantage of your child's youth. I'm sure that when the child grows up being fluent in 2 languages, your husband's family will thank you that you did not listen to them and you made the right choice.
  4. I think one of the advantages of learning a new language is that you can say almost anything you want in front of that other person, and that person will not understand what you are saying. Like you can speak your secrets aloud. For example, you can say how annoyed you are at this person to your friend that can understand the language that you speak, and the person you are annoyed at will never know what you said. Are you guilty of doing this?
  5. Yeah it is, and it is also scientifically proven, although it's not really considered as another form of language, but it is considered an ESP or a paranormal event. They say that where attention goes, energy flows, so no wonder a person that you suddenly remember ends up calling you, because it is telepathy at work. After all, thoughts are energy.
  6. I haven't really done that yet, so it would be interesting to know how many words I actually know as of now. I currently really don't have the time to sit down and learn a new language thoroughly, so I'll probably keep track of my word count when I have more time to spend studying.
  7. No, I'm not part of any language club, but I would like to try joining one just to see what it's all about. I hope these clubs don't require any fees just to be able to join.
  8. I practice the language I'm learning by using Google Translate and using language translation dictionaries. I also listen to foreign songs, and I research what it means. I noticed that the meanings stick to my head easier when I'm listening to foreign songs.
  9. Well, I think that for the most part, body language says a lot more than words can, but some people are really good in faking their body language. I think that I don't use body language that much to communicate what I say because I tend to talk more, but sometimes it does betray what I'm really thinking despite my best efforts to hide it.
  10. If you were born and raised in a certain country and spoke that language until you were 8 or 9 yrs. old, chances are, you won't forget that language. But if you migrated quite early and did not have sufficient time to be fully immersed in that language, then for sure you will forget that certain language.
  11. You mean Babelfish? I'm checking it out right now, but since there's no Tagalog language on the options, I can't verify if they do a good job of translating English words to Tagalog.
  12. I do compose poems myself, and I also like reading them, but I don't like the poems that make you think, "what the hell is he saying?" like the writer tries to be deep and use metaphors, but it makes what they are saying hard to understand. I like my poems simple and straight to the point.

    slang

I think that slang is a very welcome classification or group of words in my opinion, because you can easily weed out the formal conversations from the informal ones just by the use of certain slang words. Plus it does sound "cooler" to use, especially if you're a teen. Because it wound sound weird if a teen started to use lots of formal words in a casual conversation.
  14. Yes, it can definitely affect high school proficiency, because the younger you start to learn a new language, the more easily that you can adapt to it, and as you grow older it would be sharpened if you use it or practice speaking it as often as you can.
  15. I'm not using an Android phone now, but when I used to, I did not consider using language related apps. Maybe when I get one again I will try the ones that you have suggested.
  16. The weird part of knowing 2 languages is being able to combine the 2 and form 1 coherent sentence, and that only the people who can speak both languages are the ones who can fully understand the whole sentence.
  17. In the heat of the moment, your native language will always be the preferred and most "suitable" language for swearing. But for display purposes or when the mood hits you, you can also use your 2nd language.
  18. I think if you are only starting to learn a new language, then I think that reading a whole text of foreign language is not gonna help unless you already understand what it means. So I don't think that it's recommended for beginners.
  19. Aside from the complicated Asian characters that were already mentioned, I would like to add that Russian and Arabic would be the hardest language to learn, their symbols are quite complicated! I wonder if 1 symbol stands for 1 letter or it can also stand for words? Just thinking about it makes me all the more not wanting to learn it.
  20. My language related goals for 2014 would be to try to learn German, because I have loved Rammstein's songs from the moment that I tried to check out their songs, but I still can't understand what they are saying.
  21. I learned to speak a foreign language by the age of 7 more or less, because here in the Philippines, English is commonly used and even in the media we are bombarded by English tv programs, so no wonder most people in here can speak and understand English.
  22. Not really get it wrong, but if I remember correctly, I was watching the Ms. Universe pageant and the interpreter seems confused and can't keep up with what the contestant is saying. Of course it's not a language that I understand, so I can't really tell if the interpretation was correct or not.
  23. This is such a useful website, I noticed that aside from offering free ebook and movie downloads, they give away free academic courses too. I will explore this website further when I have the time. Thanks!
  24. I would agree that the earlier the better, after all, I'm sure you're familiar with the quote "You can't teach an old dog new tricks". I noticed that a child is more malleable when trying to learn stuff such as languages or sports as compared to adults, so the earlier they're exposed to it, the better. I think the pre-school age would be fine to start teaching them.
  25. When I was still studying, we were not required to learn any language at school, so I mostly studied and learned on my own through the internet and with songs, plus with the help of translation dictionaries.
