  1. Hey, nice to meet you/ It's a pretty great community here, and very easy to navigate. If you care about languages, you sure came to the right place.
  2. Nice to meet you! It's a great community hear, I think you'll learn a lot. Welcome.
  3. I think language extinction is only natural. Language is a tool, not a form of art or expression of culture. A language that is not being used will go extinct, because its served its function and is no longer needed.
  4. More fish in the sea addresses the hurt of a relationship not working out with one person. While it feels like they're the only ones that matter, you'll realize over time there are many others just as good and important as that one person.
  5. No, I think this is near expressly forbidden, actually. The purpose of 'but' is to play off a previously asserted idea, in which case you can continue the former sentence.
  6. Essentially any word that you repeat to yourself multiple times will start to sound odd. Pick any word, let's say 'doughnut'. Now say it aloud for sixty straight seconds. Now enjoy your weird sounding word.
  7. I think the most romantic language is French or Italian. Languages need to be able to 'flow' from the mouth, this is accomplished with soft syllables. A language with harsh syllables, such as German or Japanese, are not romantic languages, in my eyes (or ears).
  8. I hail form the United States. Off the top of my head: Chill, Cool, Awesome, Sick, Sweet, Bro, Dude, Yo, Heyo, Nah, Ratchet, Baller, Bomb Diggity. I'm sure there's a lot more, but that's some of the common day vernacular.
  9. I'd like to learn Spanish next. I think because of it's proximity to English, it makes the best candidate. I am, however, concerned with the conjugations. Keeping all that straight in my head while trying to speak seems like a near undoable task.
  10. I very much enjoy using studyblue. They have a feature which allows you to mark a card right or wrong, and then go back to study only the wrongs. It works very well and helps for easy memorization.
  11. It's not one of those things I'm consciously confused about, but I think it is something that I can unconsciously get mixed up. If you asked me what the difference between you're and your is, obviously I would know. It can be very easy to mix it up when your writing is rushed.
  12. I feel very calm. I know that the options have ran out, so all I can do is sit there and take it. If you have to do it no matter what, what's the point in getting nervous about it?
  13. I've just been assigned to read Frankenstein. I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts on it. Is there anything I should know about the book before going in? Is it any good? I think it was written in the 1800s, is it still outdated or do you think its managed to stay relevant through the centuries? Lemme know whatever comes to mind.
  14. Sarcasm is really something you have to decipher from context. You can't know if a statement is true or not without context, and we decide if something is sarcastic or not by seeing if it makes literall sense. When told he is going to be fired, Bob says "Oh great" sarcastically. But when told he is being given a promotion he says "Oh great" genuinely. Tone and context are your friends here.
  15. My favorite quote is "Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present." - Jim Rohn I think in so many instances throughout our life we think to ourselves "I'll be happy when I get the girl, the job, the money" etc. What's important is to realize that we can be happy right now, and that's what we should strive for, instead of always looking to something that doesn't exist yet to make us happy.
  16. Some English Slang terms: Cool, chill, sick, sweet, dope, baller. Dude, bro Yo, heyo, whaddup
  17. No, I think LOL is pretty out of style now. I go with the "ahahaha" or "hahaha". The difficulty arises in deciding how many ha's to use for each situation and whether or not to put the "a" before the "ha"
