Semicolons help you connect closely related ideas when a style mark stronger than a comma is needed. when semicolon is used effectively, semicolon spice up your writing and make your sentences sound more sophisticated. Semicolons are used to form a bond between statements, typically when they are related to or in contrast with one another. Examples: "A banana tree isn't a tree at all; its the world's largest herb."
  2. Prescriptive Grammar: a set of rules and examples dealing with the syntax and word structure of a language, which usually intended as an aid to the learning of that language. Descriptive Grammar: this is the systematic study and description of a language. It refers to the structure of a language as it it usually use by speakers and writers. Both kind of grammar are concerned with rules but in different ways. Descriptive grammar is called linguists. Linguists is studying the rules of pattern that underline our use of words, phrases, clauses and sentences. On the other hand, Prescriptive grammar is mostly for editors and teachers who lay out rules about what they believe to be the "correct" or "incorrect" use of language.

Incorrect grammar can often lead to sentences that means little or nothing. Some grammar error leads to sentences that means something just not intended. Even if your grammar is good enough to make other understand what you mean, constant error might give them the impression that you are not highly educated.

  7. This is a great app. I saw my cousins played it on their phones and it is fascinating to watch. I recently got a Android tablet and this will keep me occupied mostly when I am travelling. The difficult questions will keep you thinking and giving your brain the exercise it need. The variation of the game will help us to expand our vocabulary brilliantly.

  9. Yes I would use the Duolingo. It is good to use especially in memorizing words and phrases. It has six languages and it is not expensive, the method it uses to teach is fun. Anki carries cross platform flash cards, pimsleur method, Livemocha, Memrises all these learning language tools carries gamefield flashcard and memorization tools with a variety of languages.
  10. The top three languages in the world are English, Mandarin and French. English is the language of business and politics Globally. English is also the language for the internet. English is an important language of many countries. Mandarin Chinese is the second international language after English. Mandarin Chinese is the most useful language for business followed by French.
  11. Studying is hard work and challenging, exercising and developing the brain is not easy and this is why it is hard to get work done. For me when tough times comes I do things that excites me. Listening to music puts me in a positive frame of mine. I set targets and rewards, I also set myself a reasonable amount of work for the day and try to get it done as quickly as possible. Exercise is the best antidote for ever aspect of your life. Regular exercise stimulates positive chemical in your brain and this helps to build positive action, concentration and motivation.
  12. There are many things you can do before an exam to help you prepare well for your exams. The more you do to prepare for an exam beforehand, the better you will feel during the exam. To make myself feel better I study hard and prepare myself in advance because if you study everything in detail you will not have to worry about anything as you know everything. Sometimes I do get nervous, in order to avoid being nervous I listen to music, chat to friends about a movie, read an excited book or about something interesting other than study which makes you feel good.

If I had to choose one idioms that stands among the others I would choose "People who lives in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" which translate, unless you are free from fault, you have no right to judge or criticized others.   17. The hardest part of speaking French for me is the pronunciation of the words. Saying the words with the rolling is a bit difficult for me. I tend to pronounce the words with the English sound and its not like that at all.
  18. Sometimes reading alone can help you to store information and get more knowledgeable. Studying a language does required peace and quietness most times, in order for you not be distracted. Becoming an effective and efficient reader you need to improve your focus and structure your reading time and this doesn't happen overnight.
  19. I agree, the Chinese trying to learn English has great trouble in pronunciation. In Jamaica the native language is patois and the Chinese tend to catch on to the native language better and faster than the English language and its not one or two it is all of them. In every area of Jamaica that you visit and Chinese occupy that area ,they can relate to the patois in a jiffy.
  20. I just started learning my second language,for surprising us the teacher bought in a visitor to talk with us. This is the first time I actually spoke to someone using a different language other than English. Yes I feel empowered to do this, cause I was the one who was selected to have a conversation in Spanish with the visitor.
  21. For me studying comes naturally, I used flash cards, I read over my notes two or three times after I have written them. I make up acronyms to remember some important points in my notes. I use highlighters and highlight the main points in my text books and one more thing that i do when i record my teachers in class I put those notes in the form of music and sing to my favorite tune.
  22. For me I think speaking and writing is the hardest thing for me to do. I will listening and grasp the concept of what is been said, I personally get timid and fear that someone would critique in a bad way. I know it is difficult for me to speak out clearly and i rather write.
  23. I think all language are worth learning cause you would benefit from any language that is learnt. Depends on the area that you work in. If you work in the hotel industry it would be wise to learn different languages. For persons that travel all over the world this would be an advantage for them to learn all the languages at their disposal. I think all language are worth learning.
