  1. There is a shop in my town selling basic dictionaries with pictures showing the meaning of each words. I bought one of the dictionaries as a gift to my youngest brother last year and it has actually improved his interest and understanding in English. That is my favourite kind of dictionary and I'm planning to get another one for my daughter soon.
  2. Haha thanks. To be honest most of my friends are considered to be beginners and that was where the idea came from. They did enjoy it and most of them didn't actually made it to 100%. When I started learning English in the past, most of my questions to my private tutor were all about the complication with the spellings, pronunciation, and their meanings.
  3. I have both experienced learning multiple languages at once and also learning 1 language at a time. I found that learning 1 at a time helped me more to focus on what I was learning and it gave me more time to concentrate on the writing, speaking, and also reading. There was no interruption which was very good and made the process went faster for me to master the language I was learning. But if you are good in handling to learn multiple at once then I see no problem to go for it, it's just that the process will probably be slower.
  4. I think you can include "as well" in this group right? I usually use these words when I think the other one fits better on my sentences better than the other. I don't see much differences in these words and I have always wondered why English have few words with the same meaning. It's just complicating the language in my opinion.
  5. There is nothing more annoying to me other than when my friends keep saying "I LIKE" during a real life conversation. I keep on telling them that that is only on Facebook and it is so unnecessary but instead they'd reply me with "I SHARE" to what I'm saying. They really are making me hate Facebook sometimes!
  6. I started learning English when I was 8 years old along with another language because I was 2 years late to start my school life I only knew and spoke one language at that time so I found it very difficult learning two languages at the same time. I didn't manage to understand even the basic of English until I finished my high school so I had to start all over again and took it seriously during my private tuition before I started college.
  7. After few years, I still concern about my grammar usage when I'm writing so I often double check a lot of words and sentences from online dictionary. I also will refer people who know better than I do before publishing my article even though I have already done a research. Reading a lot can help me understand and improve my knowledge in language I'm using but still I can never truly trust myself without a second or third opinion when I'm writing for public.
  8. I wanted to learn a basic of Japanese last year but I had no one to interact with and it wasn't easy to find a website online that can help me teach the basic as I did not understand the writing as well. I found an application on Android and installed it and it was actually very good and helpful. Every words were spelt using times roman and the speaker was a Japanese. It was all about numbers, basic questions, and pretty much all the things I wanted to know and learn.
  9. English language is definitely a part and an important subject in our education system right from pre-school to college or University. Even though it is not our first language but failing English in exam means a student needs to retake it again. For most people in my country, knowing the basic of English is very important in order to pass an interview and get jobs.
  10. Thanks a lot. I made a slight change to the question number 9 to make the differences more obvious / clear
  11. When I first started learning English seriously my teacher was a British. I had been learning for years before that with a local teacher who kept on translating words back into our native which did not help me. So I believe that teacher is very important too. What language they speak, how well there are with the language I'm learning, and their method of teaching obviously. Writing and reading will indeed with no doubt improve our speaking skills and confidence when communicating using the language we are currently learning.
  12. My family is mix so that was my main reason to learn multiple languages. I found it to be very helpful especially when all my family members are together. If not because of that reason then I wouldn't know if I should bother learning another languages at all in the past. I like it that I can speak multiple languages though. It is very helpful especially when I'm traveling abroad.
  13. Oh I have always thought it was "I don't have feelings / fillings for you) Thank you so much for bringing that up. I will correct it
  14. Ha, that's crazy! I can't believe the word selfie made it to the dictionary. I honestly never understood the meaning of that word until early this year when most of my friends on Facebook started using the term along with their new pictures. I don't mind with the word hashtag but I have never heard of tweep before. Does it has something to do with Twitter?
  15. I created a quiz for fun and distributed it to my friends a month ago. They really liked it and I thought I would share it with all the members here too. If you are interested to take the spelling quiz then go to the address below: http://www.mummywithstyle.com/2014/04/why-spelling-is-important-have-you-ever.html Every questions are provided with two similar choices but contain two words that are spelt differently, pronounced alike, and with different meaning. You have to choose which is the correct one. You can get your score at the end of the quiz. If you like to then you can place your score here
  16. I write a lot to improve my grammar. I'm blogging and I always have something to write everyday. My husband who is a native English speaker will edit and tells me which needs to improve, change, add, and so on. I guess I'm improving everyday but I still feel insecure to publish my new post until my husband had a look at it
  17. Opps! I'm not alone I don't just imagine what I'm reading but I often find myself to be the main character (in my imagination) on every songs I listen to. It makes the reading and listening more interesting and understandable when we are able to put ourselves as the character of the stories (well in our imagination).
  18. English is not my first language but I write my blog in English and I really enjoy it. My husband will usually edit my post before I publish it and it is such an amazing feeling when he has so less to edit, add, and change. I believe I have so much more to learn and need plenty of practices because I really love writing. It used to be just a hobby but now I'm getting more serious and dedicated to it.
  19. I got angry at my husband the other day because he put a dirty dish into the sink without throwing the leftover into the bin first. I was so angry that I kept on nagging him until I said one word (which I can't really remember) in a very wrong way with a different meaning. He started laughing but I kept on nagging and getting even angrier because I didn't realize my mistake I had to stop and asked why he was laughing in the end because he was not listening to me at all. I thought it was very embarrassing. Have you ever done something like this? Do you tend to say words in a wrong and funny way when you are emotional?
  20. Since I'm blogging I still actually check some words on online dictionary. I always want to make sure that I'm using the correct word on certain sentences. I'm also sometimes forgetful and there are words that I know but I can't remember so there I'm back to the dictionary again.
  21. When I was still learning I felt that reading, listening, speaking, and writing were all equally difficult to me to be honest. But I overcame each over time and I was getting better year by year. Nowadays I feel that writing is the hardest part because I could easily ignore the importance of grammar if I write just by following what is in my mind. But I try to keep practicing, double-checking my sentences, and so on so I can become better because I really do love writing.
  22. Arabic and Hebrew are the only two languages I knew being written and read from right to left all these times. And because of how interesting it is I tried writing in Arabic when I was a kid which was very unsuccessful
  23. I speak three languages so my dream can either be in Dusun, Malay, or English. I sometimes wonder how that happens especially when it is only a dream but it is also a very interesting thing to know. I've got used to it though so it never bothers me anymore. I do speak those three languages every single day in real life because my mother speaks Dusun, my husband speaks English, and my neighbours speak Malay and I communicate with them everyday
  24. In the past, back when I was still in high school and then college afterwards I never really cared much about English exam. I only really aimed to pass just so I could finish my course and start working. But nowadays students in my country are so worried about not having a good English result because they think it makes their opportunities for jobs less than the other. I believe one of the reason they are thinking that way is because employers tend to carry out interviews in English language today so not being able to speak well and having bad result would be quite a bad impression at first meeting. Did you take your English exam seriously and expected a very good result in the past? Did you think that it would get you a much better job than people who are considered poor in the language? Share your views, opinions, and experiences thanks.
  25. English is honestly a very tricky language to learn and it can be confusing to certain people especially with a group of words that are spelt differently, pronounced similarly, and with different meanings, for example "two, too, and to". So it is understandable if a non native speaker makes a lot of mistakes in spelling but it would always be nice to have people who noticed their mistake to correct them nicely.
