Ja, mir ist auch aufgefallen, dass deutsche Sätze oft länger sind als englische. xD Ich versuche zum Beispiel manchmal aus Spaß englische Lieder ins Deutsche zu übersetzen, aber die Sätze sind einfach zu lang! xD

I heave to add something: As I see it, "sicher" means more that you are almost completely sure that something will happen. "Bestimmt" is more if you suspect something, but you are optimistic about it being true. Do you understand what I mean? But they are nearly the same in this context.

I also think "tüchtig" can mean something like "diligent". So, if you say: "Du bist aber tüchtig!", it means you are really hardworking or ambitious to work.

Hm... I think mine is "Gemütlichkeit", because there is no real translation into English. It describes a warm, soft, nice feeling, for example when you lie in your bed. But it can mean so much more! Something similar is "Geborgenheit". This describes a similar warm, soft and nice feeling in which you feel well protected.

I'm German and I've never heard "Der Junge ist schwer" in the sense of "The boy is difficult." You would rather say: "Der Junge ist schwer erziehbar", or something like that. So I'm sure it means "the boy is heavy". But as the others say: Normally you'd know that from the context.

I don't really know if there is a rule for this, but I don't think so. "Zu Fuß gehen" is an established term. I'm afraid you have to learn them, cause I don't think there is a rule for this.

In this case they have the same meaning, but in some cases you can't change them, as in: "Und deshalb habe ich das gemacht" ("and that's the reason why I did this"). In this sentence you can't say "also" for "deshalb". (Without the "und" it would work.) Unfortunately I don't know a rule for this, but I would say that "deshalb" means more something like "that's the reason why" and "also" means more somethink like "consequently".

Yes, normally it would be "Eichenwald". The only place I could imagine this word, is a very old German poem, or something like that. xD But actually, it is "Eichenwald", without an "e". I don't know that game, but ma<be they just wanted it to sound "cool"?

I've been studying Frech for 5 years now in school and I also spended 10 days in France at a native family. I had absolutely no problems communicating with them, nor did I with other French people that were not speaking German. But when it comes to French songs, movies in French ect., I just understand a few sentences or words! But why? In English (I've been learning it for 8 years in school) I understand nearly everything they say in songs or movies! But in French I don't even understand half of what they say! Is there anyone having the same problem?

Of course, it isn't always so much fun to learn languages in school, but I think I take it quite serious, because I love languages. (I'm 16, so I'm still in school.) Honestly, I don't always learn the vocabular and the grammar, but I would say, I take it more serious than other students. xD

Hello, my name is Sailor Cat, I'm 16 and I come from Germany. We learn English and French in school (I've been learning English for 8 years now and French for 5 years.). I'm also trying to learn a bit of Japanese, because I'm a fan of anime and manga and I'm very interested in the culture. I'd like to learn Italian and Spanish as well, but I never have the time to start it... We could learn them in our school as well, but if I had taken Spanish, I wouldn't have English and French classes anymore. And the Italian course was always at the same time as the choir and I love to sing. xD But maybe I'll manage somedy to learn these languages.

Maybe this is not very helpfull, but I'm German and I have never heard of one of these words. xD But if you google both of them in combination with "Vogel", this bird is mostly called "Papageitaucher". So as it seems you can use both, but I think Papageitaucher is more common. Ans also I don't think that this word is really that important, because I didn't even know this bird. xD

Yes, it would be easier with just one language, but I wouldn't want that. It would be a bit boring and the countries would lose a huge part of their culture!

I'm learning languages because I want to understand what people say and interact with them. I feel frustrated, when I'm on vacation and can't understand, what the people there say.

A statement to the question if German and English is similar: Yeah, I noticed that there are many words that are written very similar, but it's pronounced very different. But I have heard German is much more harder to learn - of course I don't know, because I'm a native speaker.

I'm German but I don't have ever heard of this. I'm speaking a dialect myself, so I can say that it's not Bavarian. You're right, it kinda looks like German, so it's maybe another dialect, or a language sounding similar.
