  1. I agree with making a friend! I have downloaded tons of Spanish language software, read a lot of books and tried worksheets. All of that helped, but having someone to practice with has helped me the most!
  2. I have never heard about InterLingua, but I would love to try to see if I could comprehend some of it. I am going to try to find it online. That would be cool if more people did learn an internationally known language. Just think of the possibilities if we could all understand each other.
  3. I am a native English speaker and I have had tons of dreams where I am completely fluent in Spanish. I think those dreams are sort of amazing! I also like it when I speak French as well. I think that it just goes back to us being all connected and we have the same consciousness.
  4. I was never good at conjugating verbs. It is one thing that just trips me up over and over again. This is one of my weaknesses with Spanish and French. It takes me a long time to remember what each verb turns into. Thanks for this.
  5. I like to study in silence and with flash cards. Repetition works best for me. I like to write out what I have to remember and write it down at least five times. It seems to be the only way that I can commit it to memory. I love learning that way. My mind just absorbs it all.
  6. That's cool that you found this resource. I love learning classic languages. Thanks for this share! Great share for a newcomer! Link please?
  7. Hello! Welcome to the forum and I hope you learn some really cool new things here. I am also and American who studies French and Spanish. I have always wanted to study character based languages, but I am too much of a wuss! I salute you!
  8. You just have to find someone who will make you feel at ease to practice with. Then you become less shy to speak another language in front of other people. Most people will see that you are struggling, but they will be happy that you are attempting to speak with them in their native tongue! No worries!
  9. I never thought of Chinatown as an immersive language town. I guess you are right. You do meet more Chinese people that way and you get a taste of the culture. I wish that we had a little French town here in Los Angeles. Anyone know of anything like that? I know there is a huge French population here, but I don't know where.
  10. That is so cool! Thanks for posting it! I am sure it took a lot of effort and a lot of guts to share it with the forum. I love seeing what new teaching tools people are using. This immersive learning game is amazing!
  11. I prefer to learn offline so I can learn while in bed or in a park. I love to learn outdoors or when I am on the subway. I utilize my downtime learning new languages. If I have to be on the computer I get distracted too easily.
  12. Hello there Fegg and welcome to the linguaholic forum! You will find some great people here and learn about new apps and ways to learn languages. It is a really cool forum! Welcome!
  13. I do not like to read on e-readers. I love to read a hard copy in my room. I currently like to read library books at home on a rainy day. That is my favorite way. Under the covers and with nothing to do. It sounds amazing to me!
  14. I think that my language is special because it is one of the hardest langues to master and I have mastered it. It makes me feel intelligent and I know that I can communicate with a lot of people for knowing English. I also like that I can help people learn it because so many people are always trying to learn it here in the states.
  15. I like watching movies that have psychological thrillers. I think it is harder for me to get scared by monsters and gore because I know that it is all makeup and effects. Psychological thrillers on the other hand, are things that I get worked up myself and it is all in my mind.
  16. Right now I am learning French because my boyfriend and I want to vacation in France. We also want to visit Canada and dine in parts of the French Canadian areas so we would like to be able to order in French. I think it is fun to learn a new language and it helps with your brain development.
  17. I think it is fine to bounce from Spanish and English when teaching. I think whatever helps get your point across is going to help you as a teacher and help your students see your point of view. As long as it isn't confusing for others then I say go ahead with that method!
  18. My English teachers were all over the map. I wish I had better English teachers. Some were either trying to shove grammar down my throat and others were too focused on creative writing without any structure rules. I wish we all had a standardized instructional video or something.
  19. I am always going into the foreign language section at my local library! I find that reading does help to expand our vocabulary and I also need to hear how inflections are as well. Audiobooks and movies help with this. I like to know the sounds of the words that I am reading.
  20. Hello and welcome to the forum! I am from Los Angeles, California and my boyfriend is German! That is so cool that you are getting your C1 certificate! Best of luck with your studies!
  21. I have always loved Arabic too! I felt like it was a mystical language and it would be impossible to learn. When I was a kid I thought it was super cool and always wanted to be "in" and know how to read and speak it! I still haven't tried learning though! Been caught up with French and Spanish!
  22. I feel that way too! I had a friend who was from Brazil and she spoke 7 languages. She learned them all when she was a kid. I tried to learn two more as an adult and I have been studying for years, but still can't pick up French and Spanish as well as she did. So frustrating! Some people can just pick up languages more than others I guess.
  23. I haven't been on the forum in a few months and was surprised to see the new updates! The forum is looking really sleek now! You guys did a great job! So happy to contribute to this forum and excited to see where it goes in the future.
  24. Thanks for the link charlotte! I am thinking about a new language and I just don't know which to pick right now. I am still mastering Spanish and French and was thinking that Italian might be the most logical step, but let's see if your link helps me out. Thanks for the post!
  25. Is anyone having a problem with Duolingo not saving your completed lessons? I recently went to the doctors and was working on a lesson in the waiting room. When I got home I noticed that it had not saved my lesson and it was going back to the beginning. Has this happened to anyone else?
