  1. I don't read aloud when I read books because that way I can read faster. I don't consider myself a slow nor fast reader, plus it really depends on the books. If I really like the book, I read it slow. If I don't like the book or part of the scene, I usually read fast to try to go through that part. I believe I am a moderate reader.
  2. Capitalization is very important in any of the writing. I do pay attention to capitalization because it considers professional. I do see people don't care much about capitalization, but for me, it's is important and necessary to always use capitalization on the first word when you start off a new sentence.
  3. Yes, your tutor is right about that. Do NOT start a sentence with However, Why, What, When, and What. I do think if you use However in the middle of a paragraph, it considers acceptable. Make sure you don't start off a sentence using However.
  4. My favorite Shakespearian work is Twelfth Night. I have to perform the play in high school as part of the senior performance. I was one of the screen writers for Twelfth Night. I love that play a lot, and I still do now!
  5. I agree! This is a well-written song, and it sounds very emotional. The songwriter does have a talent for that.
  6. I am still making my decision on whether learning Spanish or French as my next language. Since I have already known English and Chinese, it would be unnecessary for me to learn a new language. I have always wanted to learn a new language because I like the sound of French. I hope I have the time because I plan to learn French by myself, which is through online or ask one of my friends to teach me.
  7. Great response! "In" does mean more than a prefix "not". It depends on the words actually. For instance, Instruction doesn't mean it's opposite to a structure or something. I means a guideline or a set of rules that people should follow.
  8. Luminary does sound very sweet. I like the sound of it already!! I haven't heard the word "burgle" before. I will check out the dictionary to find out the meaning. Great post!
  9. I believe Canceled is the proper past tense to use in American language. Although I have seen people use Cancelled in their writing.
  10. I agree! Good English Grammar is very important for me because people do notice the way I speak and how I write in English. I pay attention to English Grammar more than anything else because it's important to acknowledge the concepts in English language.
  11. Really? I didn't know that at all. From what you have just said, I think I'm in the mix because sometimes I use past tense and other times I do use present perfect tense. I think I have read a lot of books in which are written by both American and British authors. I believe either tense is correct as long as being consistent.
  12. I haven't taught English as a foreign language, but I have taught English at my church. I teach both writing and reading to elementary students, which is fun because I like teaching people new things. I have also helped my English teacher, who teaches English as a second language. I grade student's papers and edit their writings.
  13. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful song "Walk With Me." The lyric is wonderful! I just put this song to my favorite music list on my phone.
  14. My favorite authors are Sarah Dessen, Elizabeth Scott, and Robin Jones Gunn. Sarah Dessen and Elizabeth Scott are Young Adult authors, and they write Young Adult Contemporary and Romance fiction. Robin Jones Gunn is a Young Adult Christian author, and she writes both Young Adult and Adult Romance and Contemporary Christian fiction.
  15. 配药还好。最重要的就是要记好多药名。 你住再加州。你来了美国多久? 我住再波特阑。我的中文不太好。请多多见谅。
  16. "I have had" would mean that you have something before but now you no long have it again. However, it is not similar to "I used to have." It depends on how it sounds in a sentence, which is a perfect tense of 'Have'.
  17. Spelling has been one of my biggest concerns for a lot of people. I am very strict on spelling because I make sure when I write, I try to spell the words correctly. I'm a Pharmacy student, and I have to spell the prescription words correctly because one single error will get me into trouble. I have learned spelling when I started learning English. I have always make sure the words in which I spell are error-free.
  18. The hardest language I've ever tried to learn was Japanese. I didn't do very well in Japanese class when I was in high school because I had a hard time trying to pronounce to words. It was somehow similar to Chinese, but I thought Japanese confused me more than Chinese itself.
  19. He said, "I love America." is correct. Make sure the period is always before the quotation mark, and also leave a space between the comma and the quotation mark. However, do not leave a space between the first quotation mark and the word after it. In American writing, formatting is critical.
  20. 你好, 我叫 Sam. 欢迎来到 Linguaholic forum. 我是广州的, 1998 来到美国. 我现在读配药学. 我喜欢看书的. 平时有时间就去 shopping.
  21. I think English is easy to learn because I have no problem learning. The language itself isn't difficulty as long as I know the structure and concept. I have a lot of friends say English is very difficult to learn. I think it depends on how you learn it. I learn the hard way first, which is the structure.
  22. My favorite book is the Christy Miller series written by Robin Jones Gunn. It is a Christian Young Adult Contemporary fiction that's written in English. Robin Jones Gunn is an American author, and she is a good Christian author. Another book I also enjoy is Lock and Key written by Sarah Dessen. It's also written in English. Sarah Dessen is an American author, and I really like her writing.
  23. I don't use "LOL" when I write to my friends because I think it's no professional even though I'm just writing to my friends. I usually write something that sound funny rather using the word "LOL".
  24. I've studied the works of Shakespeare both in high school and college. I have studied a lot of Shakespeare's works because I majored in English. "Twelfth Night", "Romeo and Juliet", and "A Midsummer Night's Dream" are my favorite plays written by Shakespeare. I've studied the works of Shakespeare for about three years (one year in high school and two years in college).
  25. I started to learn a second language in China, which was English. But English from the United States was different from English from China. The speaking was way differed from each other. I didn't know why, but I would think the way the teachers taught. I started to learn a second language when I entered elementary school, which was too early for me to learn a second language.
