Yes I think that it is necessary to learn even the bad words so that we can avoid using them. Sometime back I knew someone very cunning who would tell people the wrong meaning of words. I would like to learn a new language for all the reasons you have listed above. It would also be a great honor to learn a new language to add another achievement on my portfolio. Even if I do not get to use the language every day, it would be an honor to stumble upon someone who speaks that language. Maybe I would help them by being their translator if they need one.

I do not carry a dictionary; I use Microsoft word to type my work. If there is a word I do not understand, I check the synonym by right clicking when the cursor is on the word. I can also look up the word at the comfort of the same page through the same process. Life has become so convenient with the advancement of technology.
