  1. I do read a lot when I want to learn a new language or new things. I also try to speak to someone who knows the language and ask some easy words or phrases for such language. Practicing how to speak the language will help too.
  2. I think the natural way is through speaking or using the language often as possible to get used to it. The grammar will eventually improved and through using the language constantly, the correct grammar will come out naturally. Learning it from a class and using it on real life can both contribute on improving.
  3. Interesting to know about that as I am not aware that there are two types of translations for a court. I do not work in a court here so, not sure if they also have the two translations. But I think the true to meaning will be mostly used or more important type of translations for those kind of data or documents.
  4. Definitely the raining cats and dogs is one of the famous as well as the birds of the same feather, flocks together. I think I would add "Busy as a Bee" and "Puppy Love".
  5. I would say the Fruit's Basket cause it is really a Manga that I am very much familiar with. I have not read the Absolute Boyfriend but I am also quite familiar with it. It is because as far as I can remember, it has a series shown in the television.
  6. Well, it depends cause not all those books labeled "feel good books" can really make me feel good. Usually I find books about real life stories and inspirational stories, feel good books. There are times that some books are really just not what they want their readers to get from reading it. It is a matter of preference.
  7. When I was in grade school, I used to write short articles or stories in Filipino which is our native language. While I was in high school, I have written some poems in English and I have joined English poem writing contests too. I also wrote some poems that time in Filipino for school homework.
  8. I just experienced translating two poems before because it is part of our school activity. One was from English to Filipino and the other one was vice versa. It was not that easy cause you need to really understand the thought of the poem and be able to bring that out too on your translated version.
  9. Oh, it's already late to answer. I wonder what language have you used and what his reaction on it? I think since he is fluent in Spanish, he will find it sweet if you will say those words in Spanish. Also in French and check if he will understand that.
  10. I am familiar with that game although I do not have that on my mobile. Some of my friends like to play that a lot and sometimes they are asking me for the answer but of course they play better than me. I think it can be considered as an educational game and could help someone learn new words/phrases.
  11. I would also say that it is more proper to use the Filipino than the Tagalog. It is because what Filipinos are using/speaking now is not purely Tagalog. But I would not mind if it will remain as it is, if more will prefer the "Tagalog" cause it was more known as the Filipino language.
  12. I agree that we can improve or expand our vocabulary through reading. Whether it is for general vocabulary or specific one like the business vocabulary. There are lots of books or even e-books that can help you learn and understand new words.
  13. Sounds a good idea and looking forward to see it finally launched. I like its features like you can choose what topic to chat about and there could be a video chat. Family and friends will find this very useful like Skype and other video chatting for such feature.
  14. This is a nice and useful site. Good that you created it for free and it looks like easy to use or navigate kind of site. I will be checking this out and will try to get used to it. Will also bookmark this for future use and reference.
  15. It is possible to learn a new language through movies but it could not be that much. This thread reminds me of the movie Terminator 2 cause I learned there the "Hasta la vista baby". I learned English in school but some proper diction or accent, I have learned from watching English movies.
  16. I think if it is a friend, he or she will not find it offensive if you would try to correct his pronunciation. Just tell him the most polite possible like not mocking or not bragging that you know better than him. It will be fun too if both of you will pronounce those sentences or phrases together to see the difference.
  17. Yes, I think it depends on various factors. Some are fast learners compared to others even they have the same age. I also think that there are languages that are harder to learn and it can also varies on individuals or per person's background like education.
  18. There are some tutorial YouTube videos about languages or translations. Some are even made funny to catch attention and others are comprehensive enough to teach the basics. I do not subscribe to any channels but I think you can browse and see if those videos will be useful enough for you.
  19. I used to try learning some of the Latin words through the Bible. But I find it hard to learn by my own and I do not have plans of enrolling to learn the Language. I still think that Latin is an interesting language to learn although I also do not think that it will be useful for me.
  20. My grandmother knows Chabacano which is a Spanish-based dialect or language spoken in the Philippines mostly in the part of Mindanao. I learned some words from her. Mi Amor - My Love Estrella - Star Aqua - Water
  21. Got curious what is that swear word that made you got banned in such forum, maybe a "S" or a "F". I have been a member of various forums but I never use a swear words or cursing type of words. Some forums do not mind using those words and they give freedom of expression to their members.
  22. I do use some shortcuts but not abusively or excessively. I try completing my sentences when texting a very important matter cause I do not want to be misunderstood or something. I am not that cautious about capitalization when texting though.
  23. I am not familiar with this Duolingo site and definitely I will check this out later. It sounds to be a great site especially if this is a free site. I would want to try this and learn more of Spanish words as well as phrases.
  24. That sounds really good if it will going to happen. That will really be a very useful site if ever since there is no need for translators or any tools one need to download or buy. I just wonder if they will not put any fees on it and will be just free for everyone who use Skype.
  25. Those are nice quotes. I really like this "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks, but I do fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times. -Bruce Lee". It is right that focusing on one thing is better than trying to do a lot of things at the same time. It is having focus and specializing on it.
