Kotro
One of my favourite quotes regarding the English language is the famous "if the English language made any sense, lackadaisical would have something to do with a shortage of flowers", by Doug Larson. Now the comic website Cracked has come up with five more! Although it's mostly an American perspective, it's a fun read, filled with interesting information (although it's Cracked - take it with a pinch of salt). The article: http://www.cracked.com/article_20713_5-reasons-english-language-makes-no-freaking-sense.html/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=fanpage&utm_campaign=new+article&wa_ibsrc=fanpage
Dieselfit
Cracked is a great website for info like that. It makes sense for the tips but I still find that the language makes sense lol!
dejongkimberlee
"if the English language made any sense, lackadaisical would have something to do with a shortage of flowers", by Doug Larson.I honestly laughed out loud at this. There are so many reasons that english doesn't make any sense.
lovemwaf
English is one of the only few languages that is actually backwards....for example most languages would start off with saying car......red. You mention the item and then describe it, but in english you say red car which in a way is backwards.
rodserd
The English language doesn't make any sense at all, and that is what is so lovely about it.
littleredcookbook
I honestly laughed out loud at this. There are so many reasons that english doesn't make any sense.I thought the "crappy handwriting" reason was the best; sat there and giggled a while. It makes perfect sense to me, having studied calligraphy for a while (and, not being much good at it, stopped). It sucks though that these scribes were more obsessed with form than actually preserving the words. The entire concept is just absurd, and it was so long ago it's not like it's fixable. Oh jeez. I feel like reading this again and laughing myself into tears.

I mean most Indian languages work that way as well including Hindi.
lizbeth19hph
If the English language made no sense at all then why is it considered as the universal language then? Why do many nationalities are dying to be fluent in the language so that they can have better opportunities abroad?
Baburra
Pretty amusing, thanks! :wacky: I agree with the part about silent letters. I've often wondered what the purpose of that is. I do understand that it's being pointed out for comedic effect in this article, but it also does make at least a little bit of sense to me.
