  1. It is definitely an hour. I was taught in Primary school that the h is silent and so emphasis is been placed on the o which is a vowel .
  2. I do believe that English is the easiest language to learn. In almost every country that you go that speaks other language you'll find more people that know the English language when compared to other languages. In my opinion, the vocabulary is easier to remember and the rules are not that difficult either.
  3. :party:Reading alone will not be enough to have you mastering a new language. You'll need to hear how certain words are pronounced and how the language flows. You may also run into grammer problems and need answers.
  4. The weirdest part of knowing a foreign language for me is actually speaking it then in the middle of a sentence forget an important vocaulary and have to switch back to my native language to complete the conversation.
  5. I do believe that the earlier children are been introduced to a foreign language the easier it becomes for them to grasp it as they grow older. They at least get familiar with the accent and vocabulary . My children started Spanish in kindergarten and so when they got to high school they were better able to master it :amazed:.
  6. I do agree that languages do sound differently. Even in each language and country you will find that there are different pitch, sounds and accents. Some laguages when spoken tend to sound like those communicating it are arguing :wacky:. Others are much softer and clearer. So no two language are ever the same .
  7. There are lots of ways to take controll of your classroom. I just don't know how far you are allowed to take it though. Most of our schools do not allow students to have their phones in class. If they are caught it is taken from them and their parents have collect it or they can collect it at the end of the school term.
  8. I know that words with multiple meanings can prove difficult for alot of people, especially if it is not their native language . However, the key to mastering the problem is to consider the context in which the word is being used . By the time you are done, you would have also known its meaning if you did not .
  9. One foreingn phrase that gets used alot in my country is the Latin word "bona fide" which means genuine. It is generally used when talking about ones best friend .
  10. Looking back, I don't know how I did it as a kid but I was always able to figure out idioms on my own . What I couldn't understand though, is why most of the nursery rhymes had to be so untrue. For example, "Hey diddle diddle the cat and the fiddle the cow jumped over the moon...." :wacky:.
  11. Online tutorials are very effective because it does help with grammar and pronunciations. However, I do believe that it works best for the early stages of learning. In order to really master any subject, having a teacher one and one proves to be more rewarding .
  12. During my childhood years, we would speak a language we called "gypsy". It was alot of fun communicating with each other :wacky:. I still use it now and then. One example is, to say "give me" you would say gilipiv milipee or gipiv mipee .
  13. Back in high school I was a very good English student . As I grow older I find that I read alot less and have to now search my brain for some vocabulary . I also have a little problems with sentence structuring. However, I usually find out my errors as soon as I make them.
  14. Since you highlighted that it would not be the only language , i'd have to say it would be beneficial. If everyone knows English it would broaden our communication thus enhancing trade and travel .
  15. It's superb to know that in your country English is a major part of the school curriculum. I do live in an English speaking country but we also speak creole so it means that we have to study to master the art of English.
  16. At first I started in a classroom with close to forty other students. It was a big group but I really didn't mind since we all relied on each other for help. However, I found out that having a tutor gives me more focus time and so I get more done.
  17. Little ones are great mimickers so I believe the earlier you start teaching her , the better . I do suggest if you speak the languages you want to teach her then try to use them to communicate with her all the time. I understand small children are able to differenciate each language and won't get confused .
  18. This is good news :amazed:. I'm definitely going to use it to improve my Spanish . I'll also be sure to spreat such information.
  19. I never knew there was such a program :amazed:. It does sound great . I'd like to know how large my vocabulary really is.
  20. Learing Spanish is definitely a hobby for me .I learn it because I love the language. My daughter studies it too and encourages me to study with her. Apart from that I have no real reason to learn it.
  21. I would have to say everyone does have an accent. You just never realize it until someone points it out to you and even then some of us still disagree . In my country, members of each parish do have separate accent so evidently different countries would.
  22. My language mentor is my teenage daughter. She is a great motivator for me and has gone through several levels with exceptional passes . When I get a little frustrated she encourages me alot and we dialogue quite often in Spanish.
  23. I wouldn't say it is worthless learning a language that is no longer practiced by many. After all, we can never know too much and who is to say what you pass up today may not be required tomorrow.
  24. My advise is don't consider it a burden to learn a new language, just relax. I study Spanish for the sake of just knowing a second language.I usually spend an hour or two on the nights that I do.If i'm not in the mood I simply watch a movie that is in Spanish .I learn alot from it and it is always fun .
  25. I think it's a great idea to teach children a second language. With the rate at which things are going these days the sooner and the more they no will prove rewarding in the end .
