  1. you have a thought in one foreign language, forget some of it's vocabulary so you just complete the thought in another foreign language :wacky:.For example:necesito una stylo .
  2. For me I would most definitely rather sit in a classroom with others. That way I get to share what I have learnt and gain more knowledge from my classmates. This also makes it possible to throw out questions to the teacher and get immediate response.
  3. Not only Spanish, but I think it's much harder to learn any language from just listening to people talk. You have to at least learn the basic. I think Spanish is a more faster spoken language which also makes it more difficult to separate words .
  4. My favorite Spanish greeting is usually "hola" .I learnt it in high school and to this day I still greet friends at times that way .
  5. Apart from English, I have realized in my travel that Spanish is most widely used language. More people should try to learn it.
  6. The English word that sounds the funniest to me seems like a slang but is not :wacky:. The word is nincompoop which means fool or simpleton .
  7. Didn't even know there was such a word.I too am disgusted by misused words and acronyms. One that is used quite often is "reverse back" and unfortunately they are not only used by the ignorant.
  8. Well, I can't say for sure, but seeing the stare and general expression you just have to assume that the comment was rude. I would imagine if it was something good there would at least be a little smile.
  9. Before any type of exam I am usually very anxious . I try to breath normal and that seem to help. If during the exam I start feeling stressed again, I repeat the same thing and that takes me through .
  10. The saying that goes "practice makes perfect" does apply to everything . I would recommend alot of practice and keep your focus so that you don't make too much error and then have to keep reading over .
  11. I certainly agree with the person that pointed out that generation gap has alot to do with the way people speak and text. Can't say i've used it quite often. My children however, are as guilty as can be .
  12. I too find short-cut for chatting and texting annoying . I think chatting is even worse than texting. If someone is on the go and have to text in short-cut I can understand but to chat, that's too much.
  13. My second language is English, which I write in everyday. Creole, I only write in when doing dialect, which is seldom. So instead of stopping to think through what I want to write in Creole I just go ahead and write in English.
  14. To regain lost fluency in a language I would suggest start communicating the language again on a regular basis. Also surround yourself with people of that language and do alot of reading and watch movies .
  15. I do agree with the saying that goes, "too much of one thing is good for nothing".Knowing alot of language but not being able to use it hardly make much sense. Pretty soon you begin to forget some words or use words from one language in the other .
  16. I would definitely have to French. It has a soft flow to it, that makes me want to hear it again and again .I would really like know even a few statements that I could wow my partner with
  17. Never really thought about that :doubtful:.Guess i'm going to have to ask my mom. I'm thinking that it must have been "dada"(father),the most obvious in my country. My daughter at eight months old said "love you".Realizing now that those little things do matter, parents are going to have to take closer note
  18. Yes, my French teacher, Madame Ponctine was very inspirational . She would tell us alot of stories about her homeland and each week she would teach us a new French song .Her tenure was very short  but even now I continue to love the subject:grin:.
  19. I'd definately have to say French. I started learning it in high school but wasn't fortunate to complete it. My teacher taught the subject with such enthusiasm, you couldn't help but loving it . I regret not being able to speak it fluently .
  20. Sorry to hear that Benjamin Whorf's theory was dismissed for lack of support :speechless:. I do agree with his theory though. Living in a country that speaks English and Creole I have noticed that the people that practice English or both languages do much better than those that practice creole only . I think the topic does calls for further inquiry.
  21. Well. as part of my high school curriculum, I started Spanish in seventh grade and French in eighth grade. My children attended a private school and they started Spanish in first grade.I think it would be a good thing if more school offer at least one foreign language at the primary level. My only regret is not sitting the exams and continuing them after high school but it's never too late .
  22. Now that I am getting older , I do consider myself right in the middle. If I am reading something of less interest to me I sometimes skip over a few words as to get through it quickly . However, if I am fascinated by what I am reading it takes me much more time as I often go back and read the lines that capture my imagination .
  23. Now that I don't read as much as when I was younger, I find that I have to think twice before spelling some words with double letters :doubtful:.Words like really and channel.I also recall that when I was younger I would always spell through for though and though for through .I guess I need to go back to reading alot .
  24. The quotes I like best are the ones that inspire me to do well. Here are a few. -Make hay while the sun shines . -A rolling stone gathers no moss. -Well done is better than well said , Benjamin Franklin. -Time waits for no man. -A stitch in time saves nine. -Do all the good you can,by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can,to all the peopleyou can as long as you can.John Wesley.
  25. To say Happy Thanksgiving in Jamaican creole is quite simple  . For the most part alot of the English words just have one or few letters added or taken off to create the language. Therefore, we would just say appy tanksgivin. If you weren't familiar with the language, then I hope youv'e learnt something new .
