I write in my my native language which is Filipino. I also write in English. I think I learned more grammar rules in the English language than my native language because ever since I started going to school, teachers put more emphasis on teaching English. I can also write in Korean. However, I am having a hard time understanding what I am writing. xP

It wasn't love. For me, it was more like a crush. I used to work in a Korean company, and the IT Department manager couldn't speak English at all. He was really cute, and I instantly had a crush on him. Too bad we couldn't understand each other.

I was making a poster theme for work about fire prevention. I wrote "Every day is Fire Prevention Day", but my boss corrected me. She said that it should be "everyday". However, I did a research, and I found out that "everyday" is an adjective. Can anyone clarify this to me? Thanks a lot!

I find the Bing translator very limited, so I still use the Google one. I would have to agree though that it presents much better results than Google Translate.

Before buying a book, do you read the summaries or synopsis printed on the back covers? I do this especially when I am buying books that are on sale. Though there are books that do not have summaries but the picture of the author, I still browse the Internet for the synopses.

Not always! Unlike movies, people's perceptions on books vary greatly. So, I consider book reviews, but I don't really depend on them when it comes to deciding if I want to buy books or not.

Not really. I have been studying Korean for quite some time now. When I am in class, the advanced students and the teacher would sometimes laugh about something. For the life of me, I couldn't understand what they are talking about, so I just sit there staring at them. :bored:

I get your irritation! I don't understand why people think that saying this is funny or appropriate. It's just like the jejemon craze! There are many expressions that Filipinos came up with through the years many of which are just annoying.

I can totally understand! Part of my work is to translate news articles and speeches from English to Filipino and vice versa. There are really some words you can't translate directly.

Many! The reason why I tolerate them is because they are my friends. Anyway, I can forgive wrong grammar. I mean who doesn't make grammar mistakes, right? However, I cannot forgive Jejespeech because that is akin to bastardizing language. It's just not right. It is especially not cool.

I don't mind this at all. For instance, even if I am a Filipino, I am not that good in Filipino. I think this is because ever since I started going to school, English has been the primary focus of schools.

Hi! I just have a little suggestion. I think that the "Study Tagalog" sub-forum should be changed to "Study Filipino" because Filipino is the correct term for the national language of the Philippines. Tagalog is just the basis for it, and it's more like a dialect.

I understand the dilemma! I have been writing and speaking in English for a long time, but I still get in trouble sometimes when using does/did/do especially when I am in a hurry. Thankfully, I catch my errors in time!

I would have to agree with the others. I thought "catsup" is how the British spell ketchup. I always use ketchup though because that is how it is here in the Philippines.

Up until highschool, I used to carry a dictionary with me all the time. Aside from it being a requirement, it was really handy to have one with me always. However, I don't carry one anymore. I find pocket dictionaroes bulky and outdated sometimes. I just have an offline dictionary on my tablet and laptop in case I need to find out the meaning or spelling of a certain word.

No. Google translate is very unreliable. I found out about this when I was talking to my friend who can speak French. Also, my boyfriend tried translating English to Filipino and vice-versa because he wanted to understand that things that were posted on my Facebook. Needless to say, it was really awkward and wrong. Never use Google Translate for whole sentences.

I came across a really interesting article today on the website of one of the newspapers here in my country. It's about the various apps that book lovers can use or download depending on what they want to read such as comic books, children's books, audio books, cataloging, etc. I have some of the reading apps for comic books because I am a comic book fan.
