  1. I don't know. I would like to start reading some French books to get the hang off this language soon. I will be keeping an eye on this thread for more suggestions. Is there any guide for a beginner?
  2. There are no exact numbers as to how many languages there ever was. It continues to evolve from one generation to another.
  3. I wouldn't have met a friend from Australia if I hadn't learnt this language. My English is still fragile, but hey, something is better than nothing. At least I can converse with you guys
  4. I find myself in the same shoes. Not a big fan of Google Translator either, but it's improving rather rapidly.
  5. If you have mastered some languages, there is a good chance that you will wind up getting a translator job. You just need to look out for it on sites like Freelancer and elance.
  6. Google Translator is not a reliable source for translating words. At best, you can translate the whole website to another language in an understandable language, but don't expect any perfection.
  7. I don't even know the difference between the American and other versions of English. All I know is that people can understand whatever I wan to convey through my words. Ghat's the best thing!
  8. Great. I would love to participate over there.
  9. I am learning some basic French right now, but listening to music has never helped me since I am still the beginner here. I would love to learn through music though.
  10. I learned my first two languages while I ws growing up. So, I can't differentiate between my first and second language. But I started learning English when I was 17 years old, because I realized that I wouldn't be able to communicate with rest of the world with out it.
  11. I have met with some Chinese people while playing WoW and League of Legends (yes I have played WoW), and their English was incomprehensible to say the least. Of course, people would be surprised to see you speak like a waiguoren. But times are changing now and more people are eager to master the international language which connects us all.
  12. I can proudly say and pat myself, because of what I have managed to achieve in last 2 years. I learned everything that I am typing in these 2 years only. Yes, English was never a part of my education. I was never taught anything other than some basic words like dog, cat, fish, etc. I can now speak and write in English other than my native language.
  13. I have never been to China or meet any Chinese people ever, but I have had few interaction with people who didn't know any English or Hindi (my native language). I couldn't understand a thing that they were saying and neither could they. That's why I think leaning English is really indispensable no matter where you are from or how proud you are of your native language.
  14. I for one can tell who is British and who is American by listening to their different accents. If an Indian guy who has been raised in India, speaks in English, you can pretty much guess that he is from India. Such is our accent lol
  15. I will cite some Hindi slangs we use when we hang out with our friends. 1.) Iski to fat gai - He/she is a puss*. 2.) oo teri - It's used when something unbelievable happens. 3.) bhai mere - Use to address someone who is very dear to you (only males).
  16. I came here with hope to learn it in 5 minutes lol. I knew it isn't possible. But at least I learned about some words. It sounds really funny when I pronounce these words, haha
  17. I honestly can't talk about the language that are still alien to me. So, I will only talk about those I have learned or am still learning. The most difficult language to learn for me is French. I still haven't gotten the hang off it.
  18. I can't think of anything else than mirror, but as you have stated, that's not right. So, what could it be?
  19. I learned it because I had to. To be able to survive in developing countries like India, you'll have to be step ahead from the rest and be better than them. I wouldn't be communicating with you guys if it wasn't for English language.
  20. I started learning English when I was 17. Yeah, I didn't know anything about English up until 2008. I have come a long way since then. It feels great to be able to communicate with others from all around the world. Slowly but surely, it's becoming a less of a hassle to speak and wrote in English.
  21. You certainly know about a lot of languages. Hats off! I don't need to add anything since you have already stated how we address our mom and dad in Hindi.
  22. I wasn't taught English since my childhood. It was not a a part of my education. Yeah, I learnt some words like dog, cat and other names, but hadn't known how to string any meaningful sentence. It wasn't until 3 years ago when I set out on a quest to get the hang off this language which was alien to me up until now. And I haven't looked back since then. I am gradually improving every day.
  23. I am really amazed. Wow! You have completely nailed it. I would like to assure you that it's not copied from any lyrics. That's how we speak here in Delhi, the capital of India. Although what you stated holds true, what I have written is also true. You can either say 'batao' or 'bataie' here in Delhi, but if you are in the southern regions like Bihar or Jharkhand, you will have to use 'bataiye' instead of 'batao' if you are speaking with your elders. Where did you learn Hindi? It seems as though it's your native language. Wow!
  24. I ma just a starter like you. I am fond of this language. So, I am trying to get the hang off it. Any help would be appreciated
  25. No wonder you know so many languages. Do you know a bit of Hindi? "Aur batao aap kya kar rahe ho" Can you please tell me what I have written above? It will be awesome if you can I am off t check out the blog yo have linked to.
