  1. I am an upcoming poet myself but I love the works of Emily Dickinson, Rumi, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Pablo Naruda and Oscar Wilde. Modern poetry nowadays are quite interesting to read and learn. While we are quite used to rhyming poetry, free verse and other forms of poetry are also interesting.
  2. I also have trouble placing commas properly in my sentences and poetry. Thanks for this online resource.
  3. American and British English have many differences. One is the idiomatic expressions used which have opposite meanings in both languages. Another one is spelling of some words like "colour" in British, "color" in English. Some do get really confused using words and expressions in both languages.
  4. "Its" is a possessive pronoun while "it's" is a contraction of "it" and "is". They have different uses in a sentence thought a lot commit mistakes using them properly. More like in the case of "you're" and "your".
  5. If a person chooses to learn many languages as one wishes, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Knowing a lot of new languages will be part of one's abilities and skills and he can always use them when the situation permits. It's like stock knowledge of things that we have studied in school.
  6. Learning a new language using alternative or any other innovative methods all contribute to the improvement of language proficiency. I have not heard nor have tried this Shadowing method but it doesn't hurt to give a shot.
  7. I believe that exposing the young to early learning programs would have a great impact on their scholastic grades once they reach high school. Early learning programs are effective methods to prepare students in higher language learning.
  8. We learn our second language English early on during our preschool days here in our country and we are quite exposed to the language and the Western culture itself. Learning English has come in handy for me especially now that both my professions of being an English Instructor and a Professional Writer entails me to use the language everyday. Many opportunities have been out in the open as well chances for career growth when you are fluent in another language especially English which is the universal language.
  9. Having learned another language or at least your second language really has a lot of benefits for the individual. Lots of opportunities can be availed and learning a new language entitles him to explore a new world.
  10. English is far more different from my mother tongue when it comes to words but some characters in the alphabet are the same, the only difference is the sound or the pronunciation. Grammar rules is also different.
  11. I believe my strengths in English are correct use of grammatical rules, spelling and writing but my weakness is my accent though I possess an neutralized accent, not American nor British. One's weaknesses though can still be improved on and it also helps when you are truly interested to learn the language.
  12. In daily conversations, me and my friends use a combination of English and our language we call Taglish. Correct English is more important to be used in formal speaking and writing though it must also be applied in our daily interactions with people. We however are not that conscious of our correct grammar when we are talking to friends.
  13. English is our second language in our country and children learn it in preschool about the age of 5-6. I did not have difficulty learning the language since it has been my favorite subject until now. Some of my Korean students tell me that learning Chinese is more difficult to learn compared to English.
  14. English is the universal language and learning it can entitle one to gain lots of opportunities within his country and abroad. Since it is a major medium of expression in most schools and workplaces, it is a must to be able to be fluent or at least speak and understand the language.
  15. Foreign language teachers should very well know what they will be teaching, should be fluent in the language, conversant and can effectively teach students. Some require certifications or diplomas related to foreign language teaching.

  17. There are many words in my mother tongue that I still don't know and some I haven't used. Both my professions entail me to use English everyday and so I don't have much time using unfamiliar native words in both my speaking and writing.
  18. I learned a foreign language by age 5 watching an English children's program "Sesame Street". The program was my first teacher. Children in our country learn our second language early, about the age 5-6.
  19. "Advise" is a verb, an action word while "advice" is a noun. "Price" is used in products,items or commodities which means the monetary value of something while "prize" means a reward which either cash or something else.
  20. This one is for those who teach languages. How do you motivate your students to study harder and make learning a new language even more fun?
  21. I like Carl Sagan of "Contact" which was made into a movie with Jodie Foster as the lead character. Steven Spielberg is another one. I have read the book version of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". Another one is the author of "Alien" but I forgot the name.
  22. I cannot honestly keep track of how wide my vocabulary is now for I don't really list the words but each time I learn a new word, I try to remember it and its proper use. It is both fun and enriching learning new words each day.
  23. I am really determined to learn more about the French language together with its culture. I find French language classy sounding and nice accent as if everyone who speaks the language is a romantic. I will allot more time studying the language and get acquainted with their expressions.
  24. My Korean students told me it is harder for them to study or write Chinese characters than using English. Korean alphabet is somewhat similar to Japanese. But by the looks of it, seems to me that learning how to write in Chinese is more difficult.
  25. All languages do sound differently from each other when spoken either because of the accent, manner of speaking and intonations. It's not just speaking the languages but as well in writing.
