  1. The obvious answer is no, not all native speakers are good at their languages because many speak poorly. Main thing for them is that they can communicate, on the other hand is quite frequent that even prominent figures of our society give some kicks in the grammar from time to time...
  2. Congratulations on the new forum linguaholic, I will surely recommend it to anyone I know that is interested in the Chinese language. It has a great layout btw. Good luck!
  3. En que parte de los USA vives spring? Porque te gustaria salir e que trabajo harias caso saisses?
  4. A todos nos gusta Juanes, pero hace alguno tiempo que no oigo nada de el. Pablo Alboran también hace musicas bonitas.
  5. Donde eres tu Español? Bienvenido a linguaholic, estas aprendiendo otra lengua o procuras apenas platicar?
  6. To memorize words it's necessary to practice them in sentences, put them in a context where they make sense, you create that association and you will never forget them, if you keep on practicing.
  7. I don't think that writing is the most difficult at all at least for the self-learner, I think speaking is always the hardest part because of the accents.
  8. If a site is in a foreign language nothing like opening it with Chrome that gives you automatically the option to translate to the language you want.
  9. Haha, good one, to be honest I'd say it's the opposite probably because some women do look beautiful, but look better with their mouth shut? :wacky: (sorry, it's just a harmless joke) :beaten: I don't think a person is more or less attractive because of the language he/she speaks...
  10. I don't think multiple choice exams are real assessments of our knowledge, come on, it's all about odds and betting. I think a student needs to write to prove what he knows and not just putting a square, IMO that's the teachers being lazy.
  11. Hola mrhumphrey, como estas? I hope you have a great time here at linguaholic, all the discussions are about languages so as a language student you'll fit right in!
  12. Sure, it depends on the tutorial and on the student. If you have a good discipline and you have a complete tutorial online, why not, it's just a book on the web with interaction, even better.
  13. What are the main differences between the written English from the US and from the UK? I thought that this was mainly at a verbal level, but are there words or sentences that are written differently?
  14. Nope, sorry, Portuguese, but now that you mention it, I thought that the differences between US and UK English were mainly at a spoken level. Are there many differences in the writing?
  15. I'd say that learning a language is one of the hardest things we could do because it's a process that takes time and dedication, it's not something you pick up in a couple of months without studying, it's hard work.
  16. I agree that the group dynamic helps, but at the same time a private teacher would make you learn faster as he is centered in you only.
  17. Yes, I agree with you Denis, the work of the teacher would be much more difficult trying to communicate with the students in a language they are trying to learn... Having this said, if the teacher finds an effective way of doing it the students are more exposed to the language and that is a positive thing.
  18. I think it's a fact that learning languages in group takes longer, but here enters the economic factor, it's not possible to teach people individually, there aren't enough teachers and people can't afford it. At a certain stage of learning a language the group is actually helpful in what concerns practicing.
  20. Interesting answer there Bonyi, if English is the main language in your country I suppose you learn it still in the belly of you mother? Why since two, in my country kids learn Portuguese from age 5/6 onwards.
  21. In Portugal we have a saying "Burro velho não aprende linguas" literally meaning, old donkey doesn't learn languages lol. I don't think this is true, but it's popular speech... Do you have language sayings in your country, do you think they are true?
  22. I don't think age plays a role on language learning unless you're a kid and then obviously it is much easier. Main factors for learning a language for me are the motivation and the intellectual capacity of the person, not age related.
  23. Not embarrassed no, but once I was trying to speak French when some tourists came to me and nothing came out of my mouth lol, I guess I was too rusty from many years not speaking it, that is the way to lose a language.
  24. There easier and funnier ways than just to read a textbook or attend a class. We can join a language club or call a friend that speaks the language and practice that way. Have a class walking around in the garden, the hour will fly by.
