  1. Hello, It's great to have you around. It would be a challenge learning Chinese Language, but the end goal is you will achieve it since that is what you have decided to do. Members here will be of help. Wishing you the best
  2. Has anyone noticed that when you watch a movie in a foreign language you do not understand and the movie is not subtitled; with focus and concentration, especially with intriguing movies, you tend to understand what's going on. I grew up watching Indian movies and some were not subtitled but I did understand the movie. I have had similar experiences with French and Spanish movies too and eventually pick up some words that are emphasized. Who else has been in this situation?
  3. I would rather show my achievement in language learning by communicating rather than through certification. The only time I have sat for a language exam is IELTS and I am an English speaker but needed it for post graduate admissions in Germany. Other than that, I would rather not take language exams.
  4. That's great! I guess when you are fluent with languages, switching would not be a big deal. Particularly when you learn these languages as a child. I do switch languages between my mother tongue when speaking to my family but when my husband comes around, I have to switch to English so that he can follow with the conversation. It's a natural process you are unaware of.
  5. When I said 'baby language', I meant the language babies use when they just learn to speak. It comes in babbles and gibberish and no one ever seems to understand. Except scientists, who recently are developing ways of understanding how babies communicate to one another using this language.
  6. I just completed the survey. Very interesting and informative. Best of luck!
  7. There are people who can interpret baby language. Should it be an official listed language as well or just a temporary language everyone learns to speak before the official ones?
  8. There is one thing that motivates my language learning and that is 'Intimidation'. When I feel intimidated that everyone around me can speak a particular language and I cannot, I get intimidated to learn quickly. What's your motivation?
  9. I think these languages should be recovered; it's not like there are new languages to replace them. I always believe in preserving a culture; cuisine, dressing, ceremonies, festivals and languages so that they can go on for many generations to come.
  10. Wow! That's sounds unbelievable. But with technology these days, anything is possible. I looked through the link, I guess it is achievable. Thanks for sharing.
  11. Hello @cutiepie it's great of you to collect hellos. It is really inspiring to meet someone who is aiming at being multilingual. Best wishes in achieving your language goals
  12. Welcome! Wishing you the best as you converse in Finnish. It would be great if you had people you communicate in the language constantly. It would get you perfected in Finnish. Best Wishes

  16. I honestly cannot help you there. I think some other software that are as great as Google Translate but more accurate should be created to help. Many of us need these apps from time to time.

  20. When I was in Junior High School, we were taught French and we never took it seriously while others were taught Arabic. In Senior High, most of us dropped the languages completely, so we could have time for other social activities. Now, I see the loss of not paying so much attention at language learning. What's your story? Did you take your language learning at school seriously?
  21. It is a modern trend that children don't always learn the native language of their parents. This is giving rise to more and more children of the new generation only being able to speak English in most countries. Would you encourage language learning for your children to preserve and imbibe the culture for the future generation?
  22. I have always believed Chinese Language was a tough one to learn. China is on my travel list and I believe I can only imitate to learn the language. Sitting down to learn will not help me as I love to imitate people's accents and would develop the language from there.
  23. Well, I guess you have enough responses for your survey because you are not accepting anymore responses from the link provided above. Good luck with your research!
