  1. Living here in the United Arab Emirates and everyone or most people speaking Arabic makes me feel dumb that I cannot even understand the simplest phrase. Except for when the speaker is gesturing then I have an idea of what's being said. The feeling of being frustrated is one that is common especially when surrounded by such speakers. But it helps in the long run when you begin to pick up words gradually.

  11. I personally think it would be confusing because it is not like cooking two dishes at once. Language learning takes much more than just reading through; there's retention and memorization as well as practice. I certainly feel there could be confusion, knowing some languages are similar to each other.
  12. I agree that one can learn languages from children's shows. I experienced this watching Dora the Explorer with my son. At least I know how to greet and say a few words in Spanish. I'm sure it is because of the constant repetition which helps retain information.
  13. Some people say when they pay for language lessons, they tend to be committed to learn faster than when they learn it for free. Did this happen to you? Have you paid for language lessons in the past? Please share.

  15. Has anyone learnt a new language with the use of Flash Cards? I found out that I can retain words easily using flash cards but still little progress with sentences. Any positive results with anyone? Please share.

  25. I agree with @GenneveirAnderson, I know people who can speak a couple or more languages and they claim there is similarity between languages which help them interested in learning more. I usually wish I could speak multiple languages.
