  1. Even though your blog is one a free platform,I will check your link. I am interested in learning French and developing English skills.
  2. I have attended online education programs, where my tutors used VOIP service like skype to teach lessons. However, I don't have any experience with teaching language through skype. By the way, I am a language student and not a language a teacher. Based on my online study, I can say skype can be a good way to learn or teach. The only problem to me is the quality of calls (if you are using voice chat). Any disturbances with internet connection will interrupt your communication. If someone is starting to learn language from the zero level, you can teach him only by using the language common to both of you.
  3. For translation service, if you have used Bing, you will find Google as good as Bing, or as bad as Bing. If you you use Google Translate, you will find Bing translate as good as Google or as bad as Google. These translation service are for reference purpose only, you cannot rely on the accuracy. These translators will translate word by word, they do not care about syntax and grammar. If you translate "I eat Pizza," from English to other language don't be surprised when you get "Pizza eats me" as the result.
  4. I enjoy listening to Adele and Amy Winehouse. Can I learn English just by listening to Adele and Amy Winehouse? I don't think so. I can memorise the lyrics and even sing the songs, but this will never teach me the nuances of English language. However, I believe you can learn English by watching movies. You can watch people how they speak language and try to copy their diction. Best way to learn the language is watch TV shows in the language.
  5. Many people tell me that I write better but my diction is poor. I have also noticed that there are people who write well but when it comes to speak the language, they has stilted accent. This is usually with people who are using the language as the second language or foreign language. However, the natives may find difficulty in writing and easy to speak in case they do not have god education or do not have writing skills. I think non-natives have poor spoken language because they have not done enough language practice with the natives.Without proper conversation, they will always have poor diction.
  6. I don't think anyone can learn a new language just by listening to songs. Being able to sing English songs does not mean you know the language. There are many singers who sing in other language yet, they don't know that language. When I was learning English, I used to find really hard to decipher the lyrics. In my experience,if you know basic English, you can improve English by watching English movies.
  7. I am a reader, I read fictions and non fictions in Nepali, my native language and English, my second language. Apart from Nepali and English books, I also read in Hindi. I have read many Hindi fictions and nonfictions. Some of my best writers are the ones who write in Hindi language.
  8. After studying English in school and college for many years, I found that my language is still stilted. That was because I was taught English by locals (non-natives). Thus, I went to British Council to learn English better. It when internet was not popular. Some of the techniques that helped me are reading loud, speaking before the mirror, recording as you speak and listening to your own voice, listening to audio books etc.
  9. I am fluent in my first language and second language, thanks to my language teachers in school and college. Interestingly, my first language and second language both were compulsory in School and college.Had these languages not been compulsory subjects I would have never acquired better reading, writing and speaking skills.
  10. Yes, I have also observed that for some people learning language easy and for some it is really hard. However, it is also true that most of the people are bilingual if not multi lingual. That's because people learn language looking for earning opportunities. In Asian countries such as China, Japan Korea etc., people learn English as a second language because English creates opportunities for them in the job market.
  11. If the language does not use the script that you are familiar with, then it could be hard for you to learn the language. Remembering how a certain alphabet is written or spoke could be quite challenging. However, if you are learning the language that uses the same script, most difficult thing is to remember the sound, how it is spoken. If you are English, you can easily learn French, but will be difficult to learn Russian because script is different.
  12. One of the most interesting things I find about learning language is learning how to use colloquial terms another is contractions. You should always focus on learnin communicative language communicative language is the language that is used by every day people. Usually people will not say lavatory, instead they will say loo or toilet. Leaning a word "lavatory" is good, but you must know it is better to use loo.
  13. The main function of a language is to communicate. If you can communicate in the language you are learning, that should suffice. However. what type of communication and the quality of communication also matters. Just like speaking, writing is also a mode of communication. You should be able to write well on the language. Reading is also communication. The author communicates with readers. You as a reader should be able to understand the author. If you an read, write and speak well, you are good with the language.
  14. Once I saw a tagline in a Chinese brand noodles that read "This is good slut for you" I don't know what Chinese word was translated as slut in English, however, I am sure the translator did not know what slut actually meant in English. Translation mistakes can led you to grave problems.
  15. The main motive of learning any language is communication.Communication can be done in various ways. Learning language also creates earning opportunity. You can work as a translator or language interpreter. If you have writing skills, you can also earn money by writing. Nepali is my mother tongue.I learned English to make money as a translator and writer.
  16. I think yes. Technology is making communicate easier. Even if you do not know a certain language, you can use technology to communicate with a person who is using a language different from yours. There are many software and apps that help you in communication. Even if you want to learn a language, you can learn it easily.
  17. Learning language with non-native is a lot easier because most of the time non-native speaker will be using "writing language."Writing language is the language that is learned by readying rather than speaking. Since the non-native will be using accent that is similar to yours, you will be able to understand him. However, I am not in favor of learning language from non-native because a non-native will hardly be able to teach you spoken language, the kind of languages that uses lot of contractions, colloquial terms and idiomatic phrases.
  18. Have you used Google's translation service. Facebook translation is similar to Google translation. If you have used Google Translate, you will find facebook translation is just word to word translation that does not make sense sometimes.Having said that sometimes this feature becomes very helpful. It can helpyou understand what the post exactly, even though it may be grammatically incorrect.
  19. It is really hard for me to stay motivated during though times. During my tough times, I try to assure myself that "tough times do not last, but tough people do." However, positive affirmation does not work for me. During tough times, my focus is to solve the main problem. I neither can work or can learn during the tough time, all I do is wait for favorable time so that I can start fresh.
  20. sadly, when it comes to learn a language I am not very dedicated. When I start learning a language,I am very active in the beginning. I devote myself to learn the language. As the time passes gradually, my enthusiasm for the languages decreases, I begin to give less time for learning the language. And finally, I stop learning the language. This has happened to me couple of times. I started to learn French 15 years ago. However, I have not been able to speak the language properly until now.
  21. I speak three languages. I am fluent in Nepali, my mother tongue I am semi fluent in English, my working language I am semifluent in Hindi, the language I learned from watching bollywood movies. If I have to choose five language,I will choose aforementioned two language Nepali and English and other three languages would be Sanskrit, French and Spanish.
  22. For me, the genre changes when the language changes. When I am listing to English songs,I prefer Rock, however, when I am listening to Hindi, I listen to Bollywood music, and when I am listening to Nepali music, I listen to soft rock.
  23. As far as I know English is the most used language. The English language users can be classified as those using it as a first language and those using it as a second language. Currently, more people use English as a second language than English as first language. Currently English is not just restricted to English speaking countries like UK, US Canada< Australia, New Zealand, but in the countries like India, China, Pakistan etc.
  24. I think I will always try to learn the language from a native speaker. It will help me develop native accent. When I learn from a person who is using the language as the second language, I will never learn spoken language, only the reading language. Only from native speakers, I will be able to learn communicative language
  25. I think Arabic has the most beautiful script. I don't understand Arabic language or script, however, i find it very intersting because the language is written from right to left, unlike most of the script that is written from left to right.
