  1. I don't think Namaste is vanishing. If you travel to India, one of the most populous nation in the world, you will find everyone greeting you with Namaste. Namaste is also used a formal and informal greeting in Nepal. Namaste is a variation of Sanskrit Namaskaram, which mean hello,or I bow to thee.
  2. I find gender most difficult aspect of French grammar. Most of the animate as well as inanimate words have gender.How do we differentiate gender of any words in French language?
  3. I checked the link. I have tried some of the techniques mentioned in the article.I read loud, I have recorded my reading as well as practicing. When I listen to my recordings, I can see where I made the mistake. In the second reading/speaking, I correct my mistake. I also choose an accent when I am speaking. I favor British English and all the time I watch BBC to improve my diction.
  4. I am not fluent in Hindi, however, I can understand Hindi. I read well and also have rudimentary Hindi writing skills.In my experience, gender is the most difficult in Hindi language. Vehicle (referred as gadi in Hindi) is masculine gender where as train (called trail or rail) is feminine gender. When you refer train as a vehicle you will have to use masculine gender and when you say train you will have to use in feminine gender.
  5. I just checked the website. Even though the lessons on this website are devised for the children trying to learn English as a second language,this website may also help children who use English as the first language. Downloadable lessons will help kinds even more so that they can speak and write in English better. The lessons are designed for kids, but even an adult who is just beginning can benefit from the website.
  6. People learn language for various purpose, some people learn a new language for better job opportunities (in order to work as a translator, tour guide, language teacher, writer etc.). Some people learn new language to gain knowledge on other language and literature. Whereas some people learn a new language just fir fun. I want to learn new language in order to adapt into the culture of the country where I will be traveling.
  7. My primary language is Nepali, which is also written in Devanagari script. There are many languages used in Indian sub continent which are written in Devanagari script, for instance Hindi,Nepali, Sanskrit etc. Some European scholars have tried to introduce Roman script for Nepali and Hindi language, however, many sounds popularly used in Devanagari script are missing in Roman script. However, after the evolution of social media, youngsters have tried to use Hindi and Nepali in roman script.
  8. While learning language, it is very common for me to continuously repeat words. Sometimes I also say the sentence again and again. This helps me memorize the words and sentences. For people I may look like babbling like a child, but in fact I am learning language. I always learn new things by reading aloud or speaking loudly.
  9. Apart from spelling variation of z in British English, for instance organize and organise, pronouncation of z is also different in British English and American English. In British English Z is zed, whereas Z is zi.
  10. It is really interesting to note that how some letters have gone silent, r for example. In US English r is very strong and is usually spoken with full force. Whereas in British English, r, especially at the end of the word is silent.
  11. I use English as a second language. I learned the language by reading. I think I am not very bad with English writing, but I have difficulty with speaking English. I have an Asian accent. Most of the time I caannot pronounce the word correctly. Because of my inability of using language I have been mocked many times.
  12. I think Urdu (the language not listed above) the language spoken in Pakistan has the most beautiful script. It is often said Urdu is one of the world's most beautiful language.
  13. English is the second language for me. I learned English by reading. However, learning language just by reading is not enough, you need to listen, write as well as speak. Songs and movies are wonderful techniques to learn language. Since spoken language is different from written language, you need to listen to how the native use the language.   14. In order to perfect my English language, I read all the time. I read fiction, non-fiction as well as poetry. Probably, I have read more books in English language than the books in my first language. I also honed my Hindi language by reading books. Some of my favorite writers are the ones who write in English and Hindi.
  15. I joined French language class when I was in college. Because of time constrains and other priorities, I dropped French language class. Even after I stopped going to French class,I continued practicing French. However, slowly I lost interest. At a time,it looked like I had given up learning French. However, years later, when I was looking into my book self, I discovered my language book and my French notes. At that moment, I felt the necessity of learning the language again.
  16. Learning Hindi came naturally to me. My home country Nepal shares border with India and there is an influx of Indian TV channels and Bollywood movies. I learned Hindi language from Bollywood movies. When I was in High School,I even had Hindi language as one of my subjects (because I studied in India). I can understand Hindi well, read Hindi well, and have basic writing and speaking skills. It was easy for me to learn Hindi because it is very similar to my native tongue.
  17. Japan has a great literary tradition. Haiku,one of the best poetry forms in all languages, was perfected in Japan (it is suggested that Haiku was originally developed in China). Japanese literature has a wide variety of poetry forms such as haiku, senryu, haiga, tanka etc. I don't know the Japanese language, but I take interest in studying Japanese poetry forms.
  18. You make a very interesting point. I have worked as a translator and been paid $4 per page. If Google did the perfect translation, I would have never got that translation jobs.

  21. Learning English was not my choice. English language was a compulsory subject in school, college and the university. Currently, English language is my working language. When I was in college, I took interest in French language and joined a language skills. Even though because of time constrains, I dropped the French language class, I continued learning the language on my own. My love for French is because of France's progressive history, French cuisine and French culture.
  22. I think this is a good idea. However, I have never done language sharing. People have tried to learn my language from me and I have also tried to learn the language of other people, However, there was nothing sort of language exchange. I hope to find someone who is interested in learning my mother tongue Nepal for his/her English
  23. I am a writer based in Nepal. My mother tongue is Nepali. Nepali language, the official language of Nepal, is used by 24 million people in Nepal and equal number of population in northeast India, some portion of Bhutanese and Burmese population and in other countries where people of Nepali descendants have migrated. If you want to travel to Nepal to see Everest, trek in Annapurna, or visit Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, you definitely need to learn Nepali. I can help you.
  24. I have drank goat milk, but I did not like the taste. I prefer to have water buffalo milk instead of cow milk. Water Buffalo's milk is thicker than cow milk and contains more lactose and fats. I don't know about the positive effects of chocolate and coffee on brain. I may look on this and see of it is actually good for the brain.
