Anyone else want to learn a language but...
Jellyfish replied to wannalurnspanish's topic in Language Learning
No, I'm not afraif of that but actually I just could think of rare situations when I could use it. Except of course I travel into a country where the particular language is spoken. But we all know that this way you learn the best. -
I like that opinion and I guess that German could be really that language that's the most useful for you to learn. Though I ask myself who someone can forget to travel into a country.

I'm a man so there is nothing like romance existing for me. But when it comes to sexy languages.. well, I don't know. I like the Bavarian and Saxon dialect very much in this way. Swiss and Austrian is also very appealing to my ear.

Linguisitically Speaking, Are Americans Arrogant?
Jellyfish replied to cinderr's topic in Language Learning
Well, this kind of arrogance seems to be something that's not just limited to languages for Americans. Let's say their knowledge in geographic is rather disappointing too. -
Do you think German sounds "aggressive" ???
Jellyfish replied to linguaholic's topic in German Language | Discussion
For people that are not used to hear and understand it it might sound aggressive. I just think it's raw and rough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKtj2apUQXE -
Thanks, I will check it out. Never heard of it before though.

Is there a language you just don't like the sound of?
Jellyfish replied to A0130's topic in Language Learning
French. It sounds theatrical to me and is way too soft. You always get the impression they are afraif of speaking words out in a rough way. -
How do you find others that speak your language?
Jellyfish replied to A0130's topic in Language Learning
Well, I guess the same goes with Eastern Europe or Far Eastern girls if you're a boy. -
German using Rosetta stone
Jellyfish replied to SpiralArchitect's topic in German Language | Discussion
I just remembered that someone in my family used RS for learning English. It has been some years and the only negative thing that about the programm was the bad layout. But that may have been changed by now. -
How do you find others that speak your language?
Jellyfish replied to A0130's topic in Language Learning
Well, I guess the internet gives great opportunites to find people with the same interests. In my opinion it's just hard to find some of those who lives nearby but that might depend on where you live. -
I know that. Just think of the options menu, you surely learn words like mode, difficulty, sound and such things really fast. Does anyone remembers the booklets of Genesis titles? They had several columns with different languages. I wrote down all the words and learned them like vocabularies.

German using Rosetta stone
Jellyfish replied to SpiralArchitect's topic in German Language | Discussion
Well, if you take a look on all the benefits you have with such a programm I am sure it is worth it. Not everything is free or only costs a few bucks. -
A ticket. He lives there way up in the sky, no one knows who he is and why.

Do you know some unusual ways to learn a language? And have you even done something like that? Share your stories.

That's really by your brother? I showed this sometimes when I wanted people to get a glimpse of the dialect.
-
I don't know if that is something that makes learning German much easier but it is definitvely something special about this language. You can build long, long words this way.

What about Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz?

German using Rosetta stone
Jellyfish replied to SpiralArchitect's topic in German Language | Discussion
I don't know if the German version is good but I think all those Rosetta Stone programms are great. So I would just try if it works for you. -
Do you think online tutorials are effective?
Jellyfish replied to Judhie's topic in English Language | Discussion
One can be effective but it depends on how it is designed and on how much will to learn you show. Learning on your own is always harder than in a class or something. -
The world's most difficult language // Your opinion
Jellyfish replied to linguaholic's topic in Language Learning
They say German is pretty hard. And I guess every language that has a completely different structure (f.e. Latin alphabet - Asian sign) is hard to get into. -
You often see basic words of different languages being similar although the regions where those languages are spoken are far apart. Obviously there always was a lot of cultural exchange.

I myself try to be as good with grammar as I can. I don't care how others do with it as long as I can understand them.

I think my fist words were "Steckt mich wieder rein, es ist kalt hier draussen.".

English is a true window to the world…
Jellyfish replied to Mogra's topic in English Language | Discussion
Most people you meet, no matter where they are from, are able to speak some basic English words and phrases at least so it is really a language that makes you able to be part of the world. Besides that all the important things in Western civilization is written in English. Not only in English but every time.
