  1. Welcome Preya-M, it's true ciao for the Italians is both for hello and goodbye. You seemed to have missed Olá, after all Portuguese is the 4rd most spoken language in the world!
  2. This is something really subjective. English is a very easy language to learn, but Chinese is easy too, they almost have no grammar. The biggest difficulty in Chinese would be learning the sounds and the characters, especially because no one sees movies spoken in Chinese.
  3. For me the best language to learn would be a language I would need, for example if going to live in a new country or having a job that requires languages. Other than that English is a must, everyone speaks English these days.
  4. Yo nunca fue a Holanda pero ya tengo estado en Alemania, penso que seran paises parecidos?
  5. De que país eres tu Trellum? Imagino que la diferencia entre las lenguas españolas sean como as del portugés de Portugal e de Brasil.
  6. I have a friend who was learning Portuguese and he asked me: what is the difference between "morada" (address) and "namorada" (girlfriend). I haven't even noticed myself that the words were really similar, but the meaning are completely different.
  7. One of my favorite words is "enseñar" because in Portuguese we have a very similar word "ensinar - teach", but in Spanish it means "show" (or something similar), so I always find it funny when I hear it.
  8. If you have the possibility to visit the country it's for the better because you can pick up a lot of sounds, but you need to study a lot as well and you can learn the language without visiting the country too.
  9. I really don't have many chances to speak Spanish because I don't go to Spain often, but from time a Spanish speaker appears at my job (I work at a university) so I get the chance to speak. Trellum, are you a native Spanish speaker? Why don't I see you on Spanish practice thread?
  10. Ja, sie sind unterschiedlich (how hard is it to write this word!!!), aber das was nicht das Grund, Ich fuhr fort zu studieren und es war viele Änderungen...
  11. Hey Rachid, welcome to the forum. I speak some Spanish and French too, so I am looking forward to practicing with you.
  12. Hey queenbecka, welcome to linguaholic. It's great that you are teaching languages to your kids, the younger the better!
  13. True, I am just sorry that Spanish, Portuguese, French and German practice threads don't have much movement. Well, German thread has a little.
  14. I wasn't actually embarrassed, but it was a strange moment. A French tourist asked me directions, I understood what he said, but when I opened my mouth to speak French nothing came out... :speechless:
  15. I think we all have an accent. In what refers to English I really don't know, I am Portuguese so probably the accent is the least of my problems. :shy:
  16. Es war vielleicht vor 10 Jahren, ich hatte ein gutten freund da und ich will es neben er leben. Aber es war zu schwer...
  17. Welcome Hank, I hope you enjoy it here at linguaholic. I am looking forward to practicing some German with you on German practice thread, I've studied for a couple of years, but I am pretty rusty right now.
  18. To maintain a language alive in our head we need at least to be reading in that language or we will forget about it. So even if we cannot speak or listen too, I think reading is a must!
  19. To me German sounds pretty aggressive and I think it's because it has a lot of rshhh sounds and similar and that is not smooth in the ear. Your "A" letters many times also have strong accentuation so that possibly helps too.
  20. Never knew that as well! :laugh:Here in Portugal we would say turtle too, like "you look like a turtle" for the equivalent of your buffalo.
  21. It's very rare for me to use LOL because it's very rare for me to give lots of laughs, but now and again I do give them and if I am typing I might as well write it. :wacky:
  22. Welcome JessiFox. Howcome you are learning latin? You will not have many chances to use it. :nerd: I hope you enjoy it here!
  23. I think a universally spoken language is a great idea, but it is impossible to put in practice. I think the "Esperanto" that has some chances to happen is English, not a new language.
  24. I have studied Russian and I think I bought all my stuff at Amazon, I really can't recall, it was some years ago. I can advise you to print the alphabet in transparent stickers and glue them to your keyboard, it's a great help!
  25. Wann ich Deutsch gelernt ich will nach Deutschland leben, aber ich war nicht...
