  1. This was my favorite dress, how dare he call it hideous with a face like his!
  2. Again the beast roared "that is a hideous dress" in a voice that words cannot describe. Ironic that something so unbearably disgusting looking could be critiquing her dress! She looked around for the tiger but he was nowhere to be seen, only the tracks of his huge paws were visible.
  3. Physically he wasn't there but I still had an uneasy feeling that he was nearby. The wind howled through the open window, causing my steaming tea cup to rattle in the saucer. Despite the sharp knife in my hand I felt very vulnerable and unsettled.
  4. I don't have to think about speaking, writing or reading English but in Spanish its a whole different story. I am not even close to speaking Spanish fluently and I am still translating it in my mind before I say something. My English might not be the best but its a lot better than my Spanish!
  5. I can't speak, read or write either one so they both look extremely difficult to me. I am fascinated by both of them but don't see myself, at least in the foreseeable future, learning either one. My hat is off to anyone who can master either or both languages.
  6. If the schools can afford it then by all means get them into situations that they can be immersed in their new language. Sitting in a classroom can only take a student so far, its hearing it spoken by native speakers and learning the nuances and accenting that makes the experience more fun.
  7. By far it is the speaking that is the hardest for me. I'm more visual that verbal so when I am able to read or write a new language I do much better than speaking it. Plus the verbal nuances and accents on words can be problematic when speaking but not reading or writing.
  8. I've never used one and I am sure that there is pretty much an app for everything. Its certainly something I will look into, anything that can help me to learn a new language is something I want to know about.
  9. Although some languages are disappearing due to the demise of some cultures there are still many, many languages available. As long as there are humans and different cultures there will be language. We need it to communicate with one another.
  10. I've never read much poetry but decided recently to take a free online class so I can get into the game. Its a beautiful way of expressing oneself and the styles of poetry are seemingly endless. I am enjoying the class that I have been taking to the point I might try my hand at writing some!
  11. Some people just have a natural affinity with language and can learn a new one fairly easily. Learning new languages is fun and it really doesn't matter how many that someone knows or whether or not they get a chance to use it. Learning is continual, just like life!
  12. Slang has its place and when use in an informal setting and not overdone it has its merits. I believe it expands a language and allows a language to grow. It also embellishes language and gives a distinctive quality to regional dialect.
  13. Basically it is to continue refining my skills in Spanish and increase my fluency both orally and in writing.
  14. I think that a thousand years from now that language will be much different than it is right now. I think society will have a more multilingual and multicultural approach. I'm sure that a thousand years from now our language will appear very primitive and that a large number of languages will actually be blended forms of what we are speaking now.
  15. I have just discovered it and thinks it a great idea. I haven't really had the chance to check it out in depth but the little I've seen has been extremely useful.
  16. Beyond computer literacy, being multilingual is key to employment both now and in the future. Much has changed since I was in high school in terms of learning a second language. The options back then were Spanish or French. Now the kids have more options and better and more efficient ways of learning a second language.
  17. No I haven't and I would be curious to learn more about it. Anything that can help me learn a new language more efficiently is something that I would want to know more about.
  18. If I know the material then I have no worries and if I haven't studied then I have no reason to worry! Its going to be a bomb and I deserve it for not studying!
  19. People use irregardless because it is a fill word and they somehow believe that it sounds intelligent. Its not and I hear it used a lot, especially by TV newscasters.
  20. It is great that everyone wants to help the new speakers. How else will they learn if we don't help them? Immersion in a new language is the key to learning it.
  21. As if it could read my mind the abomination growled, "You are NOT dreaming this, respond now!"
  22. Still, I felt a sense of unease that was heightened by the wind driven creaking and groaning of my house.
  23. What a fantastic topic! I can't think of any right now but I'm enjoying reading what others have come up with.
  24. I would never give someone a hard time for trying to learn English or any other language. I would only hope that someone would do that for me too!
  25. I think the ending fit really well, I couldn't come up with anything else that would have fit.
