  1. I actually don't. I would rather listen to my professor than read. I find it that what we hear or I hear is the most effective way of remembering things. Only when I'm interested in things, thus I read and it really retains. I guess it is a matter of interest.
  2. Yes. My second language is English and thus I have always dreamed with it. I actually often do not speak or say words when I'm dreaming and I wonder why. But sometimes I do and most of the time it's in English. Sometimes it is in my native tongue.
  3. Yes. That is the case for me. I grew up with cartoons and television and I'm really doing well with phonetics and pronouncing English words. It's really amazing how and what I watch really influences and retains in my brain thus giving me this awesome ability in speaking a foreign language.
  4. I usually do. Sometimes I'm conscious enough that's why I'm a bit of perfectionistic in speaking out loud. I grew up at a school where grammar, spelling and other things are very important thus I am now very good in grasping the English language and constantly learning it and speaking it out.
  5. My mind thinks in multiple languages. Either English or my native languages; Filipino, and Ilocano. It really depends upon the person I'm talking to. Most of the time when the subject is English I think in English and vice versa.
  6. You may look for people who are willing to teach you or talk to you in your desired language. There are groups out there who are willing to help people like you to learn and to converse in the language that you choose.
  7. Knowing how to speak the language and understanding people who you didn't understand before makes learning a language fun for me. The language itself can be interesting for me so that could be another reason.
  8. I think carrying a dictionary is a good thing. You may use it for words you encounter and those words that retain or are frequently used by other people. This can help you learn common words which are a pretty big help.
  9. It depends. When the language that one knows are those which I like then yes. It would make them more attractive to me. But if they're just showing off, I'd rather not care since it will encourage them to brag and be boastful. Knowing languages isn't good without proper application, if you're just in it for the pride and to show off people will not like you much.
  10. You have to use every means necessary. Use your tablet to indicate the meaning of the word. Use your phone and place it a memo, diary or other way you can remember it. Use paper and write the word and meaning and continue to memorize it. Or you can post it in front of your mirror, or anywhere in the house which would let you remember the words.
  11. Google Translate can be good on websites that allow it to translate. The downside to these is that there are few to none pages that can be translated properly. So if you do not know the language in the web-page, good luck to you as you may never understand anything written in it.
  12. I haven't heard this from anyone else. Probably because all of the people in my country are xenocentric or they prefer other culture rather than ours. They all have a colonial mentality mindset! Who could blame them? Our country and government officials are so corrupt that they don't care whether they steal the people's money. As long as they become rich infamous thieves who deserve to rot in jail.
  13. In my case. Multiple choice exams given to us are very difficult. It's because everything seems correct and is rather correct, you just have to find the best answer. This is totally awful and unfair since who gets to dictate the best answer? The professor/instructor! So anything he/she says goes and that is really an awful thing for us students who studied long and hard for examinations and we get this.
  14. I don't really know. It always depends on the people's capacity to learn and the ability to cope with understanding and speaking languages foreign to them. Others could be really advanced and be able to adopt the language well while others would not comprehend and need more time to learn the language given to them.
  15. Advantages: I easily pick-up the language specially when I am eager to learn. I can practice it with the help of others. Disadvantages: I sometimes forget words when I'm not using it.
  16. Yes. You have to dig deep into the cultural background of a country or a place where you are trying to learn the language, try to mingle with someone who knows how to speak English or any language that you both understand and try to let him explain to you what the origins of their language are. Thus you would be better understanding of how and why they use such language to communicate with other people and it would be easier to learn it.
  17. Yes. I'm also from the Philippines and since we have a lot of dialects for our diverse languages and culture. You have to try to understand what they're saying, basically ask them the meaning of their words since we have the same words but with different meanings. Try using ordinary Tagalog if they would understand you.
  18. Yes. According to the BIBLE (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth), the tower of Babel was the sole reason for the separation and the distinction of languages. Before we had one language but since people were getting all high and mighty and want to be god of themselves, God separated and disrupted the single language into many languages in order for them not to understand each other. Today we are on the verge of another tower of Babel scenario and I think this time its going to be judgment.
  19. I speak four languages. English, Filipino, Ilocano, Ifontok although I can't speak fluent Ifontok, I understand it well which is still a mystery since I never grew up in our province. We have different languages in the Philippines which is also a blessing and a curse in some ways because people cannot understand each other well but sometimes is a good thing.
  20. No. I'm a really proud Filipino. We are a blessed people and we just have to humble ourselves before God in order for all the Chaos and the Corruption in the government to be put to a halt. I love my fellow Filipinos and I hope they do the same and stop having a crab-mentality mindset and focus more on how to improve our race in general.
  21. I believe I saw someone although not sure if it's real using an electronic device which enables the mute to convey their messages through a speaker which is a programmed computer and a programmed voice? Yes. I believe we have ways for the mute to speak but I think it is an expensive contraption and not really for the masses.
  22. Of course. Sign language is the language used for the deaf and mute, this is the only understandable language for them except those who already know how to write English and other languages. Sign language is a great tool for those who have hearing and speaking disabilities since they can still communicate to other people including those who can speak.
  23. Both. Since some words have different meanings in different context, studying words could be a good thing to do to differentiate one from the other. On the other hand, learning phrases would pretty much give you a glimpse and further help you in making complete sentences in the language that you are trying to learn.
  24. I believe so, Age doesn't matter. In our country a 70-80 year old person passed the Bar Examinations which and even topped it. I mean how amazing is that, an old person studying Law school and topping the Bar Examinations, it's just crazy. It doesn't matter how old you are, it matters how determined you are to learn a language.
  25. Yes. Actually in my own country, I've been embarrassed but not to a great extent. I couldn't speak my native language because I have not gone accustomed to it since I never heard or seldom hear people speaking the language. Although today, I already learned some few words and I can understand the things that hey are saying but speaking it fluently is still a mystery.
