  1. Text messages ruined the grammar of most young people. Nowadays, reading a text message is like reading a coded message.
  2. Active and passive sentences are basic grammar lessons. To understand, try to read a lot more books. Also, read examples on-line.
  3. I have to admit that I sometimes wonder where to place a semicolon when I type a sentence on the computer. It get's even more confusing when the examples are not that specific or when the sentences used for the examples are not that applicable.
  4. Financial assistance for such exams is impossible to get. However, this depends on your country. Try searching on-line.
  5. I had been looking for past papers. Thank you for sending this website.
  6. The only technology that I have seen of that nature is in the movies. In real life, there is only a gadget that can be controlled with the eyebrows and it looks like normal glasses used be people who cannot speak or move.
  7. It depends on the languages they know. If they know a language I find attractive then probably but unlikely because the attractive aspect is not what a person speaks but who is speaking.
  8. I think the only time a new language should be taught in that language is once all the basics are taught.
  9. How can I get a language buddy? I would like to learn Spanish.
  10. Ever since I saw the lord of the rings I tried to learn what the elves were speaking and I found a dictionary on-line for the same. Sad to say I didn't understand a single word since the references are mostly to the movie itself so I decided to read subtitles instead.
  11. Anything that is written in the Bible should be respected. I will not argue with any of you over this topic. I will simply ask you to keep you views to yourself and keep the forum on topic. The Bible is not a book that requires review and neither is it a novel or comic book to joke about.
  12. I'm a very good listener and I acquired most of my language skills mostly through listening. In order to learn any new language, you have to be a good listener.
  13. I was watching a movie then I heard an angry Spanish girl curse out a fellow actor who was supposedly her boyfriend. Spanish just sounds nice. I would like to hear that up close.
  14. Reading and writing a new language is the most difficult part. Speaking a new language is basically mimicking whatever you hear so that's not difficult at all.
  15. Chinese is definitely the most difficult language to learn and then there's Greek. Ever heard someone say this maths test looks like it's in Greek, that's someone who had tried to learn the Greek language. :beaten:
  16. A lot of people who write believe that the use of big words helps their credibility as a writer. What you need to remember is your words are what will market your books or columns. Simply understand your target audience and what they would prefer and then make a decision on the style of writing you'll adopt. However, if you're writing for the general public, always use simple words so that you do not discourage readership.
  17. At seventeen, your brain is basically a sponge. Encourage yourself to read books with substance and limit the romance and the sci-fi. You have already developed your imagination and creative side, now is the time to add culture to your thoughts.
  18. To encourage teaching, all you need to do is appeal to their human nature. Tell them what's in it for them. What many teachers fail to remember is what you want in life is not necessarily what your students want. Find out what one individual student wants out of their new language skills and encourage that idea until they become self motivated. Do not tell students what you think they should do with their learning skills, ask them what they want first.
  19. Walt had to die! It's quite simple, the story required an ending that showed us the repercussions of dealing drugs. Otherwise, my high school chemistry teacher would have tried to make the blue stuff as well. But if you ask me, the real moral of the story is, quit while you're ahead.
  20. Words that catch my attention vary with my mood on that particular day. If I'm not as upbeat, I will definitely avoid gloomy titles but then there are days when I might be interested with the same title just out of curiosity because my mood allows it.
  21. I see you're now at 660 likes on Facebook, that's great. I think you should post more links that will direct more people to this wonderful forum on the Facebook page so that we all help each other learn new languages and appreciate the languages we already know.
  22. I have always wondered what my name sounds like in Japanese. My name is Michael, if someone could help me to learn how to say my name in Japanese, I would really appreciate it. I would also like to learn how to say good morning, and goodnight in Japanese.
  23. I think all languages can be romantic if the words are used properly. It simply depends on who is speaking and how the words are spoken.
  24. Google translate is not that bad. However, I would never use it for directly translating and sending a text or email and it is not advisable to use Google translate for test reference. This is because when this app is used, it translates words how the program understand what is written and not the mood or even the meaning.
