How to play the Christmas word scramble
Each row shows a Christmas word with its letters mixed up, for example etre for tree. Put the letters back in order and type the word. A right answer locks in at once, so there is no button to press. It fits a Christmas party, the last school days of December, or the afternoon of Christmas Day when everyone is full.
- Start with Easy (10 short words), then move on to Medium (14 longer words) and Hard (16 long words).
- Stuck? Hint gives you the first letter, and one more letter each time you tap it.
- Unscramble it opens the letters in the Word Unscrambler, which lists every word they make.
- Show answer reveals one word. The count at the top keeps solved and shown words apart.

Printable Christmas word scramble

Hard Christmas word scramble
For older children and adults: 16 long Christmas words such as decorations, gingerbread and mistletoe, each with up to 11 letters. The sheet ends with a bonus round: how many smaller words can you find inside one of the answers?
Tips for solving a word scramble
- Think of the theme first. Every answer is a Christmas word, so run through what belongs to the day before you look at the letters.
- Look for an ending. If you see I, N and G, set them aside and solve the rest: that is how STOCKING and WRAPPING fall into place.
- Pair up double letters. Two of the same letter usually sit together, as in TREE, BELL and REINDEER.
- Move the vowels. Write the consonants down and try the vowels between them in different places.
- Say it out loud. A half-finished word often sounds right before it looks right.
Ways to use it
- At a party: print one sheet per guest, set a timer for five minutes, and give a small prize to whoever solves the most.
- In class: the easy level suits younger readers, the medium and hard levels the older ones. Let pairs work together.
- In the car or at the table: one person reads the mixed-up letters aloud, the others call out the word.
