  1. Wow, it seems a good site. I will surely try that one. Thanks for sharing it.
  2. Here in my country most people know how to speak basic english, but they are not using it. So if somebody is talking in english it's a bit weird. One time I have to take English exam for employment purposes. I need to speak in english everyday to practice. I also have a friend who are doing the same. so we decided to speak wherever we are. At first it's kinda weird because a lot of people are looking at you but as I go along I get used to it. I don't feel weird anymore. It comes out naturally. If you really want to communicate in spanish it's ok. Some people might find it weird or feel like your just showing off. Don't mind them. The feeling will pass. Besides you have a good reason why you are doing it. I think that's the only thing that matters. Goodluck.
  3. That's a great idea. I think the only problem will be the time difference because of the location. But if you really want to learn then you'll find ways or time. right? This is good.
  4. It's not the people I don't like but just the sound of their languages. I dislike Russian and arabic. It seems all the words should be pronounce with R.
  5. I like traveling to germany. I enjoy the place, food and the people. I met new friends there. That's the reason why I decided to study the language. I'm not really looking to be fluent, but at least I can communicate while I'm there.
  6. I don't think aggressive is the right term to describe it. but maybe a little lesser than rough. if you will compare it to other languages. For few mos in germany and hearing it everyday. I agree with Czarownica that it's not soft or subtle. But there is one person, I hear him talking and it's different from others. it seems so sweet. I think it has something to do with his voice.
  7. Knowing english (my second language) landed me a nice job in a foreign land. It open opportunities for me.It also helps me when I'm travelling. Another thing was, one time there was a foreign guy admitted in our facility and nobody wants to talk to him, it frustrates both my co workers and the guy that they don't understand each other. I served as an interpreter and I helped him during his stay.
  8. Some languages are using characters, that makes it harder for me to learn. What I do is I learn first of how to speak it than to write it. Most of the time I communicate with talking but not in writing. To learn, I watch videos. The reason why I want to learn foreign language is to communicate even the basic one. It is helpful when I do traveling. Learning new language also helps me build my self confidence.
  9. What foreign language do you consider romantic. Romantic in a sense that by just hearing the words, you find it sweet even without understanding it and somehow you find yourself wanting to learn it.
  10. I watch foreign movies with subtitles, so I can understand the movies better. It helps me a lot. I'm not sure if that can be considered unusual. I also talk in front of the mirror, that helps me see my facial expressions and sometimes I pick questions from the internet then I record my answers. I'll listen with my voice to check my pronunciation, accent or diction.
  11. Putting all together the possible words you know even it's not correct or you are not making sense at all. Pretending that your speaking their language, just showing off to your family and they all though your so good because they don't understand everything you said.
  12. I really want to learn German, for a couple of months staying in Germany. I learned few basic words and phrases. I also try to learn online. Hearing it everyday during my stay makes it easier at that time. I can understand some words but I can't really communicate well. But after I came home, I forgot almost everything since I don't hear and use it often. Aside from german I also want to learn french and italian. I'm fascinated with these languages.
  13. I think a lot of people are playing this game. it's a nice app. been playing it for couple of weeks but i got stuck. This game will let you think. I encounter something about this game, that I think should not be included like a certain disease. The pictures shows the symptoms of the disease and that disease is not even common. I think it is better if they will just use common things. It is just my opinion.
  14. Mabuhay Alfonso, welcome to linguaholic family. This is a fun site. For sure you'll enjoy here as much as I am. Have a good one.
  15. If you are using the language everyday. It is easier, but once you stop using it, you'll forget it. It happened to me. Sometimes I can't recall the correct word. I can't express what I'm trying to say. Learning a new language is easy. I think no matter how fluent you are, if your not using or hearing it everyday there's a big chance that you'll forget it.
  16. I only know how to say the Alphabet with the use of my hand. The correct way, but of course you can't communicate with them by forming all the letters of what your trying to say.
  17. Mine is TULAY. (tagalog/filipino) In English it means BRIDGE.
  18. Some people are confuse with these words. When do we really use the word advice vs advise, price vs prize?
  19. I do believe that English is a window to the world, English is my second language and whenever I go to other countries, I use it to communicate with other people. Most countries use English as their second language. Most people can speak and understand English, even the basic one.
  20. I started learning English in my primary school. I am lucky to have that subject in school. I went to other countries and knowing how to speak English is really important. I may not know their native language but through English I can still communicate with them since, most countries are using English as their second language.
  21. Online tutorials are effective for me. I tried one before, but we are all different. It might be effective for me but not for some.
  22. Correct grammar is really important. Most of the time, it will reflect the educational background of a person. Aside from that, it serves as a basis of how intelligent the person is. I'm just talking in general. I know people should not be judge of how she/he communicates, especially using foreign language. I started learning other language at a very young age, but since I don't use it regularly. I still have some grammar errors every now and then.
  23. The first word I used was Nay, short for Nanay. It's a tagalog word we use to call out mother. Since my mother is the one taking care of me most of the time. That is the first word she taught me because of how I will call her. We all know that when we try to teach a baby to talk for the first time, you'll notice that they always say the last syllable of the word. For instance for Mommy, the baby will copy it getting only the last syllables making it MI.
  24. Yes, languages do sounds differently. Sometimes even if two persons from different countries are using the same word or phrases you will notice the different sounds. Sometime by just listening to someone who is talking, you can say where he/ she came from.
  25. I started learning my second language (English) when I was in grade one. In our country, English is included in our curriculum so you will learn English at a very young age. It is very helpful because most people around the world are using it as their second language.
